    Tiny Tach is in!

I've been running the tiny tach for about 6 months and I love the thing. For those of you looking to install one, I found that there was just enough room to the left of my battery gauge to flush mount the tiny tach from the rear. Of course, I could have had a cleaner cut and maybe some allen...

    M1008 6" Lift: My experience

Thanks man, I know people with CUCVs and civy one-tons that ran the "junk" parts for good amounts of time without much incident, glad to see that you can verify one more case. Crossover is on my long-term list, just couldn't plop down the cash just yet for the kit and a 2wd box. I like your...

    M1008 6" Lift: My experience

Thanks Cucvfreek, I see that you understand that different people use their trucks for different purposes. Some people wheel their rigs, some people want bigger tires to cut the gearing down and for occasional offroading. My post was by no means the definitive RIGHT way to do anything but I can...

    M1008 6" Lift: My experience

The crossover steering arm adapter looks to be about 2" thick, same as a steering block, I would think that it would be just as easy to break the longer bolts required to install the x-over adapter as it would be to break the bolts in a steering block unless I'm missing something. The pitman arm...

    M1008 6" Lift: My experience

My best estimate is that the speedo is about 5mph off, so at what I guessed was 65, the truck turned around 2600-2800. Once I get an accurate read on what real speed is, I'll post some better numbers.

    M1008 6" Lift: My experience

It's a stock 6.2. You can certainly feel the difference pushing the 36" tires around, but it's not terrible. I don't mind it, I can still get out in traffic and stuff.

    M1008 6" Lift: My experience

Ok guys, so I usually lurk around more than post so first, I would like to thank the whole Steel Soldiers community for all the info I have gathered from this forum. I figured I would give back by sharing my lift experience for anyone else who wanted more on possible options. I know that when I...

    Got Snow?

12" here in Virginia Beach. CUCV is my daily driver and the Swamper TSLs are not the greatest in this weather. Anybody who has ever been in this area (stationed in Norfolk perhaps?) knows that nobody pretreats roads, they just attempt to lay down sand after a few inches accumulates on roads.

M1009 is a BEAST off road!

My interest with the M1008 is that it is fitted with a D60 up front, a locker out back, and 4.56 gears from the factory. Its a good start for a nice little off-road truck. But like mudstone said: if you don't get it, you don't get it. Different strokes for different folks, ya know?

    Fresh paint for the M1008

Definitely. I painted the thing under 2 overlapping oak trees. I was really lucky to not have a bunch of trash in the paint.

    Fresh paint for the M1008

Thanks Crash! It was a Central Pneumatic Professional Series HVLP from Harbor Freight. Bought it on sale for 16 dollars a while back. Did exceptionally well. The gun takes abuse too. I don't brush it down after use, I just shoot some Xylol through it when I'm done and throw it back in the tool box.

    Fresh paint for the M1008

I painted the M1008 today. Well, most of the M1008. I thought I could stretch a gallon, and I almost did, but I will need another quart for the middle of the roof and the headlight buckets, grille, and mirrors. I used a BASF industrial paint. It's an alkyd enamel that you mix 4:1 with a...

    antenna mounting bracket hardware

Your local Harbor Freight should have them in the hardware aisle. They have a kit that includes the rivet gun you need and an assortment of rivets. 45 Piece Threaded Insert Riveter Kit

Anybody else here drive CUCVs while in the military?

I kick a 1008 around the yard at work (civilian contractor attached to a Seebee battalion). Its the reason I bought a 1008 of my own. The sad thing is how beat up the poor yard truck is and the fact that they refuse to spend money to repair it. On a cold day, its kinda rough with no back window!

    My Swellman 070's

Thanks doghead! I'm not really worried about using the slave port, I have no MV friends locally and I don't even have a slave cable. I threw in some 60G's today (had to thin the connectors a bit) and it started right up. I think the 12v glow plug mod might be the first one I make.
