I have 2 appointments and a Webinar (school) to attend tomorrow, but will try to squeeze in a full load run to test the idea. Not opposed to pulling the head if its needed. I have the tools but am also in the middle of re-configuring my hot water solar system before Winter sets in. As the saying...

Jerry: Sorry for the in-activity, was finishing up rebuilding my Hot-water solar system before Winter set in and then left town for Thanksgiving. Have gotten a lot of input. Was hoping that the compression test results might point to something specific. Am reluctant to just start tearing it...

Compression Test WOW, you guys are great!! Thats a lot of input!! I ran the compression test again today with a more accurate gauge. Weather: Sunny and 36 dgF. Pulled all 4 glow plugs. Cranked the engine with these results: #1 280 psi, #2 280 psi, #3 280 psi, #4 295 psi. Screwed in 3 glow...

Hope to do one more compression test today (saturday) to get a (hopefully) more accurate read on the numbers. K.I.S.S. (right?) Not looking forward to a tear down, especially with Winter bearing down. Guess I'll have to check the TM to see what this will entail. Thanks for the encouragement...

found the components needed (check valve) and such, been recommended that I warm up the engine first before doing the check, so need to re-install the glow-plugs, bleed lines etc. and warm this thing up, was only getting about 200 psi in each cylinder with cool engine, see what I can get done...

Check valve/schrader valve Thanks, Jimc. I will follow-up on this and hopefully rig something up. Its always something, isn't it? ZeusDiesel

Hey Guys, sorry to be outa touch a few days, school and I have been collecting the materials needed to measure the compression. Found a helpful guy at Home Depot and between their store and his rec to check out Air Gas ($10 pressure gauge) and a friend who braised together the 7/16 x 20 bolt...

:David Our house is only 1225 Sq ft, when I l run gen at full load I turn everything on and still don't come close to demanding 10KW. When I ran it for 5 hrs the other day (no load) I saw the oil pressure hanging around 45 psi most of the time, which for this engine seemed a little high. I am...

Thanks guys. I went to the TM and looked up the compression test. Pretty straight forward, wondering if anyone out there has done this test? Question being, where to find the proper size equipment to do it, i.e. compression adapter that will fit the injector ports on this engine. Suspect I...

Wow, thank you for all the input. I'll do my best here to respond. Yes, I have checked or had Jerry check all of the following and these things check OK: VALVE LASH, I.P., INJECTORS, GLOW PLUGS, LINKAGE/THROTTLE: engine runs smooth, once up and going. There is at least one shim on the IP...

Checked the plugs out over the weekend, 2 showed 5.4 Ohms, 2 showed 6.0. Using ether, I started the gen and ran it for 5 hours, no load about half throttle checking to see if the piston rings were froze up, thus limiting start-up compression. Ran with out a hitch. Shut it down, 1 minute later...

OK, thanks, Guys: I have two classes tonite (thurs), will hopefully test these plugs tomorrow, weather allowing (supposed to get up to an inch of rain tomorrow). ZeusDiesel

Thanks, Jerry: I will go with the easy one first and check the glow plugs for veracity. That might explain how this whole thing started in the first place, with it just suddenly not starting: electrical issue. I'll see if I can find info on the specific kind of test I need to do.... Feel good...

Thanks Jerry, lookin forward to that celebration. Engine actually sounds smooth.Any thoughts what this extra kick in the pants means...is it a lack of compression in the IP (worn @ 3400 hrs??) lack of compression in the engine..is the injection pressure setting too high?...is something sticking...
