Burying a fuel tank

I found these 250 gallon aluminum tanks locally. Im thinking of making a long wooden bench to hide it on the side of the shed and voila!

Replenish is easy. 55gal plastic drum in truck bed or utility trailer and use a drill pump. Well worth the $17

Thinking about mounting a 250 gallon propane tank to a trailer and use it....would a propane tank be ok to store diesel?? I have an old tank I might use.

Do you have other equipment/vehicles which run on diesel? ULSD sucks in terms of... well everything. You need to be realistic between fuel storage, use, and degradation.

If that is directed to me, yessir using it will not be an issue. Would definitely have to put a decent pump on it.

Yeah sorry it was for the OP. I see by your signature you have no issues burning through a bit of diesel.

Ok so I saw earlier where you said that you were convinced not to bury it. Just want to reinforce that. I used to live in Miami, lived near westchester and family had a place down by cutler ridge (cutler bay now). The BIGGEST reason why I say you shouldn't just try to bury a random tank is the water table. You gotta remember, the water table there is basically just below the surface. You're going to have a hard time preventing rust and water ingress into the tank. Not to mention contaminating the water table if it leaks. Don't forget, during Katrina, we had people jet skiing in the streets. So the flood water after a hurricane will be over the fill and vent port of your fuel tank if you're not careful.

Also, an aux tank can ensure the wife stays comfy with the A/C on at night and the beer cold in the fridge all day for those long two weeks after a storm. Maybe point that out. I live in West Texas now, but I definitely haven't forgot 2005. I now have 3 military gensets, my biggest being a 30k, and plan to get a 600 gallon fuel tank because I never want to be in that position again lol. After that I'm going to have to pick up an LMTV to make sure I can use up my old fuel

I picked up 3 stainless steel drums @ work that they threw away & use two of them for diesel storage along with 3 truck fuel tanks & a 60 gallon genset fuel tank on a trailer. That should keep me supplied thru whatever nature throws @ me. The stainless steel won't rust & is thick enough to outlast me by many years. My only problem is to make sure I rotate the fuel & inspect it for algae & water issues.

I wouldn’t bother attempting to bury a tank legally at least it’s a nightmare you don’t need that much heat

Do NOT bury a tank.
The liability is not worth it. You would need to be permitted, have a escrow bond, a double wall tank engineered, a containment barrier, and probably a yearly fee. When you are done, you will then have to take it out, and test, and submit to then get your bond back.
