Useless HMMWV parts? (seats)

Hi all,

I've upgraded my M998 to Jeep seats. As you know, the M998 was the most primitive HMMWV and was equipped with the worst, most primitive seats. I junked the passenger's backrest already. Before I junk the torturous driver's seat assembly, does anyone want it? Free, of course.

Mainly, I'm thinking that someone might want it for a HMMWV in a museum exhibit or something.

Where are you located? I could use some of the seat parts.

I am possibly looking at putting non-OEM seats in my M998.

What's the hot setup? What's the science project?

The driver's seat is basically just 2 pieces of angle iron across the "bucket" that the OEM seat mounts to. (running left-right, one mounted to the forward part of the seat bucket and one mounted to the rear part of the seat bucket.

Typically, the front piece is just a single, straight piece. Drill holes to match the existing mounting holes of the HMMWV seat bucket that is mounted to the floor pan and drill holes that line up with holes on the bottom of your chosen seat. The second piece usually requires tabs of angle iron welded to the second straight piece of angle iron to line up with whatever holes are on the bottom of your chosen seats.

There are a lot of photos and examples in the "What have you done to your HMMWV today?" thread. Owners have used a wide variety of seats so no two examples are alike. It's a custom job. Jeep YJ-TJ seats were very easy. I only needed two tabs on the rear angle iron piece.

The passenger seat is very easy. Simply remove the seat and battery cover. Unbolt the old seat. Line up your new seat where you want it and drill the holes in the battery cover. Mount the new seat. I advise sturdy bolts and large fender washers to spread the load.
