Month after month we see beautiful examples of restored vehicles here in the monthly challenge. Some of us have retired MV's that we hope to bring to a new life. A life beyond their service military service. A service we honor [my dad served during WWII, my son serves USARMY NG today] by restoring, refurbishing and modifying these well built platforms to suit uses unimagined by the original designers. We are drawn to these vehicles not only by their capibilities, but by the fact they were built near our homes. In our case, central Texas with parts supplied from the town we live in. A 2003 M1078A1 built in Sealy, Texas; has parts supplied by Lasko Industries of Kerrville, Texas. These platforms offer us not only the opportunity to celebrate their service, the service of the men and women who relied upon their capabilities, but to go beyond and celebrate our unique brand of freedom in the world.

These vehicles are unlimited in their potential to become even more than conflict vehicles. Whether restored to their original state or modified to carry on in the future, these units, with all their faults, are a blessing to all patriots and individuals whom refuse to be hemmed in by societal norms.

We embrace all retired MV's, whether restored to their OEM configuration, or adapted to suit a new civilian use. We are proud to keep our MV alive and regularly meet folks who ask about its history while admiring its service. We hope to honor those who served and those who benefitted from their service, like we have.

Hopefully, our adaptations and efforts to keep our M1078A1 on the road are viewed constructively as we intend them. To uphold the blessing we all enjoy living in the best place on earth: free in the USA.

She puts a smile on everyone's face—

Since I had a front tire pop, luckily in my driveway just as I pulled in, lol, figured it be a good time to just get it over with and do the head gasket and all new hoses, fuel lines, oil pressure sending unit and gauge, and get all that oil cleaned off of her. The oil leak from the head was getting so bad I was having to add a gallon per week! Removing the heads, I only broke a few bolts on the water manifold and I did get some replacements (5/16x18-2"), but I noticed the gasket had tons of oil under it and I could see the line it was taking in the front, sides, and back. Had lots of crud build up on and around the injectors, which looked like a wasp made their little mud nest lol. I'm wondering if that was contributing to my hard starts and loss of power, I couldn't see the injector nozzles it was so bad so I'm hoping that's the case. Just started this on Sunday of last week and only had three days to really work on it with the weather and work. Got the heads all cleaned up as well as all the parts. Just have to clean the head bolt threads and the block and it's going back together followed by a coolant flush, new fuel filters, and an oil change.

This month was hard. Changed my vote twice. Then decided to vote in a day or two. Then decided if I didn't vote now, I might forget. This getting old crap, is getting old. So, I let the grand kids help me. Master Jeff stepped up to the plate.

Reinstalled the CAT 3126B'S reprogramed ECM this afternoon. The difference between 275hp and 330hp is awesome. We'll try to get a similar video to 'merging onto the interstate' for comparison, though the difference, especially uphill is noticeable. I can't recall the last time we were in 7th gear.

Some maintenance is needed on such a truck. The backhoe has 35 greese fittings.
Every time friends are wellcome, and they like it.

If you believe it or not: that little guy in the second pic is actually me having the time of my life. I remember digging so deep i reached the ground water. The See surely found a place in my heart!

thanks.. i never did have the opportunity to picture all of them together, there's about a dozen more elsewhere .. they work (or sleep) at two locations 3 hours apart .. sometimes they swap locations but basically i have at least one of everything at each location , except dump trucks, there's more than one of those per place

It´s great that the Freightliner Unimog FLU 419 SEE is street legal with a speed about 55 miles/h.


But if you go for a longer distance she rides piggyback on a more comfortable truck.





It´s not bad to get a blessing for a braekdown free ride home. That´s usuall at meetings in Bavaria.

One last video on the final day to vote! My goodness Migginsbros play hard and smart. Plus who wouldn't love such a versatile rig?


Well we had almost 2-1/2 inches of rain this morning so we went on our ritual rainy morning projects drive to see how the SWPPs and erosion plantings held up. Glad to say it all hung in well through the thunderstorms.
