Need Help Diagnosing Fuel Delivery Issue

Good news is a buddy of mine said i can come pull the IP off the 6.2 engine sitting on his shop floor. Was hoping to snag a 6.5 IP off the internet since i had read those give you a little more power, correct?

Haven’t started pulling the IP yet - what would your solution help us narrow down? Isn’t the pink wire the cold start advance or something? I remember reading about it on another thread

The fast idle and cold start advance both have a green wire connecting to them. The pink wire as pointed out above is what turns the fuel on or off.

My post in #24 is just following normal fuel filter bleeding procedures. If the engine is cranked with the pink wire connected and powered while the fuel supply to the injection pump is open. Air will get into the injection pump and you will be starting over again trying to get the IP full of fuel again to even diagnose your issues.

Well now I am more confused. I disconnected the pink wire, still nothing. Pulled the inlet line to the fuel filter, cranked and couldn’t get fuel to it. Hooked a shop vac up to the inlet line to the filter and got a little bit of fuel to come out, but nothing crazy. So then I pulled the outlet line on the fuel pump and cranked it and nothing came out. Does that lead us to believe it’s a clogged fuel sock in the fuel tank?

Well guys, took a while to figure out, but the wrong fuel pump was on it. The replacement I got was the exact same, but no luck. The one that was on it didn’t work either. Not sure how it worked all these years, but anyways, ordered the correct one Delphi HFP906 and within a few cranks, I had fuel shooting out of the inlet hose to the filter. Hooked it back up to the filter and cranked it and the engine really wants to fire now. Almost did a few times. But still no luck. It gets close, but no dice. Videos below - should there be fuel spraying out of the injector when I had it cracked? As you can see in the 2nd video below, fuel is coming out of the injector definitely u see more pressure than before, but it’s not spraying out under high pressure by any means:

good to know!!! fingers crossed the plugs are my issue then!!

As you can see in the first video, it is kind of hazy in the garage from cranking, and you can see the passenger side intake port there's some white smoke kind of coming from it while cranking.

Glad it was just the fuel pump. One of the most irritating problems with parts is getting the wrong one. There's 2 that fit...one works one doesn't. It is hard to get these to fire with no glow plugs or only a few that work. Since you have smoke I'd wait till you get the new plugs in. Make sure the glow plug relay clicks when you go to start it. It should start pretty easy with all 8 getting hot. Check your oil for diesel smell too...might wash past the rings with all the cranking going on. One point to is just because you replaced a part doesn't mean it's a good one or a working one. Oh and charge the batteries overnight...these don't like low charge. Bad things happen to the 24 volt system when they drop below 20.

Yeah i plan on posting pictures of the pumps later - the one i pulled off of it that i got a replacement for is the incorrect one that does not work. But you can see when comparing them that both the plunger arms are still slightly different, even though they are the same style, which makes it even weirder that it worked for so many years .......

After putting on the correct one last night, i got fuel to the filter within about 10 seconds of cranking.

And i have a big boster charger hooked to the batteries that i turn on whenever i am going to try to start it. Havent left it on overnight as i worry about it getting hot.

Mine has been converted to 12 volt too

One other thing i need to rule out i think now that i have the correct fuel pump is the filter sock in the tank being clogged, so if it doesn't fire with the new plugs, i am going to run a line from a diesel fuel jug to the fuel pump and see if that makes a difference
