That issue will not happen again.
Yes it will...
Seriously, it just happens.
Particularly when you're getting frustrated chasing some other mystery.
That way when you find it you can get more frustrated because you don't know if anything you just tried the last 10 minutes helped, or hurt so you can do it all over again.
Just remember you're not the first, and won't be the last...
Just come back to the support group and vent...

Hi, I'm Tim, and I left the E-Stop in while troubleshooting...

I found some surprising documentation from when this unit was brand new.

A laminated Lube Order Manual

Info about warranty and how that process works.

Depreservation Guide that shows the exact date when this unit was ready to ship. Still sealed from the factory.

Shocked that this paperwork was still with unit.

This is probably normal and came with everyone else’s generator.

No other records. That’s it.
Would’ve been nice to see some maintenance records.

.
@Tinstar ,

I have been crawling through a mess of digital TMs and just came across a boat load of Warranty "TBs". The HEMTT, the generators, the M916, 18 and 20 and a bunch more. Had no idea we had bulletins with that sort of information...

That's really nice stuff to have!! Doesn't look like anything was marked up either. 2 things I noticed, now that I am on my laptop that I couldn't see with my phone is, the fuel filter has been changed so you shouldn't need a 6 foot pry bar to get it off. The main fuel pump isn't the square one they usually have that stops working a good bit. I have those blue disk things that you put in the voltage regulator if you want a single. I had to buy 10 to get one so got a bunch extra. LMK I can throw a stamp on it and send it your way.

At least they used Wix filters.
The oil filter is also a Wix and looks new. Besides the dirt/dust
The Air Filter is also new and is a Wix brand.

The paperwork has zero marks.
The factory put those with the unit, closed the lid and that's where they've been for the last 22 years.
Except the operators manual.......someone snagged that of course.

PM sent on the MOV part.

So still waiting on a few parts to arrive.

Fuel return hose arrived today. Bought 12 feet. (will be using some on my CUCV injectors).
Fuse Mod/MOV. I ordered the wrong one, not really sure how, and now the correct parts are headed this way as I type. (Thanks Kurt!!)
Ordered all new stainless hardware. It's enroute.
Want to make sure unit runs and makes power before Oil and filters change

Haven't done much to unit except general cleanup and inspection.
Was going to wire the gauge lights today, but the heat and humidity were brutal. Not a whisp of wind which made it worse.
Been reading old threads and the manual.
The more I read, the more impressive these machines really are.

I'm taking the advice of not being in a hurry.
I do have my wonderful MEP-002A if needed.

Is there a commercial substitute for the coolant bottle cap?
I refuse to pay the stupid prices on eBay for them.

Really looking forward to hearing this thing run.

Went out today to wire up the gauge lights.
Somehow, the housing on the water temp cracked open.

I think it was caused by a rain cover (unit is inside, but was keeping it covered) that caught on something when I was removing it and didn’t think twice about it.
Control compartment lid has been removed for cleaning/inspection.
Clearly it did damage.

Now I have a parts wanted posting in the classifieds.

Perfect

GIJoeCzar I think his username is, has alternate temp gauges up in the classifieds. Will read about 20* hotter than reality, but is a direct fit. Just a different set of resistance figures.
Saw that one.

If no one chimes in that they have one, I will just do that.

They only made thousands of these.
You would think that the spare parts would be bit more plentiful.

Installed new fuel return line.
Used the brass tees.
Taking muffler off made that job so much easier.
Secured lines after photo.
They were really in bad shape.
The ones to the injectors were busted in half.
The plastic tees were strong and solid with no sign of degradation. Saving those.

I did not use clamps/ties at hose ends since this hose is designed not to have them.
Try to pull one off after install and you’ll break the hose before it slips off.
Use exact hose on the CUCV diesel and almost 10 years and not one has came off.

When taking muffler off, I turned it upside down and a literal handful of carbon chunks fell out.
1) Run generator hard for hours……….check!

The fuel tank needs attention.
Everything is leaking.
Have the brass well nut replacements ordered.
Can only find cork gaskets so far for the sending unit, etc.
Not a fan of cork gaskets.
Might just make my own out of felpro material.

Still waiting on parts.

There were a few dings on the top panel that I hammered straight. So much easier with aluminum. Came out great.

I almost tried to start it, but remembered that I’m still waiting on the correct parts for the fuse mod to arrive.

Everything needs a bath. Rags will only do so much.
