Slave Cable End

I have converted the 24v slave outlet in the grille of my M1028 to 12v so I can jump-start other vehicles without opening my hood. I need the male end of a military slave cable so I can fabricate the 12v jumper set. I don't need the entire slave cable, just the male part that plugs into the grille receptacle. Thanks.

NOS.

I replied to your PM. I'll get you some pics and add them here, along with some clamp suggestions for the other end.

Military issue slave cables use 2/0, but their use case includes an NH250 in truly cold weather. A 6.2 in KY can use lighter cable.

In reading your content, I get the impression that you like overkill, and that highest possible quality is your general preference. With that in mind, be aware I have in the past been able to get the slave plugs to accept 3/0 welding cable. Finding clamps that will accept it for the other end is another matter entirely.

Thanks for your reply. It appears that you are more knowledgeable about slave cables than I am, so I will follow your advice. I had planned on simply re-routing the 2/0 OEM cables from the slave port in the grille to the side outlets of the new Hawker battery in the rear tray instead of to the 24v firewall buss. I have already labeled the grille plug 12v. Interestingly, on my M1028 there was not a resistor in that OEM circuit. I can certainly install a resistor in the new 12v wiring but would prefer a circuit breaker instead. I used an Eaton 187200-F-03-1 200 amp circuit breaker for my Sherpa winch and really like that device. Regarding the jumper cables, would you recommend using an OEM slave plug & cables with after-market clamps at the other end, or instead sourcing a heavy-duty set of non-military jumper cables to which the male grille plug is attached? Having fought jumper cables for 60 years, I prefer the small-stranded type which are more flexible in cold weather. And yes, PayPal works for me. I look forward to your next reply.

On civilian equipment I have taken to adding Anderson connectors to the vehicles and making jumper cables with clamps on one end and an Anderson connector on the other. (This is essentially what you're doing with your slave port.)

For clamps, the Polarwire 1000amp clamps are the be-all and end-all. But they need good access to the posts to be able to reach.

The 500amp clamps pictured still in the packaging make a good choice because they can reach just about anything.

The 400amp Spartan clamps pictured on the cables are like the Polarwire clamps, but smaller.

I checked what I have on hand for cable. I don't have anything appropriate for slave cables. I stopped making them when the price of components exceeded what I could expect to get for the finished cables.

Fine stranded copper welding cable is what you want to use for your slave cables. Civilian jumper cables tend to be copper clad aluminum, even the "good" ones.

Larger cable is better, but weight and bulk count too. #1 or 1/0 at 16' is probably a good choice for your use. 2/0 and 25' if you want lots of reach.

Pics were taken today.
