Spicergear, where is a link to your build where you used the 53a?? Is it on this site or m715?? I want to see if there are pics of what transfercase you used and how you did the driveshaft to whatever t/c you used?? Thanks, did not know they ripped you off, that sucks, wonder if that place...
Just curious why did you not use the spicer 3053a that was already in the truck??? With a SAE#3 bellhousing and 59 cummins flywheel you could have reused the stock clutch assemby, if you would have used the SAE#2 bellhousing you could have updated to a 14 inch clutch if u used the 2 to 3 SAE...

Prob a getrag 5 speed, no parts suport and another reason to swap a spicer 3053a into it to keep the truck when it dies, all you need is a sae #3 flywheel clutch for #3 and it will bolt up, are you can go to a sae #2 bell flywheel clutch and a Phoenix castings spicer 3053a adapter ring from sae...
maybee thats where i got the wrong idea it had a alum case, when my 2007 dodge 3500 g56 cools off i will look at it and see what its made out of, maybe it is alum, have you seen those g56 transmssion gridles they are making for it?? will try to post the link to th eplace in texas making them, i...
ok, how about the g56, i got one out here but thought it was alum, does it have a main case with a alum tail housing, does the nv5600 have a alum tailhousing??? i admit it when i am incorrect but not sure seems like one of them is mixed, I have seen trucks with transmsssion craddles at pulls...
Yeppers, I still remember when you were still buying and selling military trucks way back seems like 3 forums redos, you are the guy who redrilled the 3053a duce adapter for a true sae #2 pattern i am thinking, used to follow your posts on the m715 site, how long ago was that??? Anyway, when...
It has a cast iron case for one, huge american made gears in it, if the oil is changed it has be proven with 427 inch chevy with fuel injection, I have one in a w200 powerwagon with a np 200 tranfercase and a cummins that i bog with some, prob about 375 horsepower and 44 x 18 x 16 vtread ag...
Congrats, how about making us an adapter so we can run this great iron transmssion with your new gears shaft bearing conversion to all of the Ford Chevy Dodge diesels that are blowing the standard transmissions when they go over 400 hp, there are some 2 wheel drive sled pullers with 59 cummins...
Shame the guys who started this thread let it die without updating for anybody to fllow behind and recreate what they did,..Any pictures of the completed swap and phone numbers and parts sources so we could buy stuff where u did??
Well thanks for all the coments, i am waiting on a 5 ton clutch hosuing to come in so i can see if it will match up to my 3053a tranny, i sure hope it works, that way all one needs is the $100 housing off a junker 5 ton 5 speed to bolt up to the sae 2 flywheel housing on the fl80 5.9 sae 2 set...
has anybody else been working on completing the actual part numbers needed for the driveshafts to transfer case?? I have gotten hung up and an working again on my 4bt with a sae 2 clutch housing adapter from phoneix to the freightliner sae flywheel housing and flywheel from china aftermaket, i...
Can anybody tell if the 5 speed uses a 14 inch clutch in the 5 ton truck?? If it does means there is a chance that the housings can be swaped out. The freightliner fl80 uses a sae 2 bell with 14 inch clutch. I know i have to get a custom clutch disc made for the 3053a with the 14 inch clutch.
I am not sure, but if that was the case them the clutch would be the same for both trucks, they have different part numbers I thought, but of course that alone does not make them different. I guess a hint would be if a m35 clutch is the same dia as a 5 ton clutch, i am betting the m35 is a 13...
The SAE #3 clutch housing on the Spicer 3053a 2 1/2 ton is removeable and, the clutch housing on the 5 ton is removeable as well, one simply unbolts it and swaps it out, surplus army truck people have told me that the 5 ton is sae#2, the 3053a is SAE#3, so swap out the clutchhousings and then...
I have 3 spicer 3053's trannys with the 5 speed overdrive. I am finishing up a powerwagon 4bt swap where i bought the Phpneix casting sae 3 to 2 adapter for $500.. What I need to know is has anybody here ever taken the transmission bellhousing off of a 5 ton truck(which i understand is sae#2)...
