...the solenoid and it does not blow a fuse. As soon as I hook it up it blows the fuse. I looked through the wires and I cannot see any bare spots hitting anywhere. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I do have a hillbilly wizard glowplugcard installed and it has worked fine for the past 2...
Solenoid tests open on ohms with key off...
Was possible suspecting it was the card and I have a spare, but didn't just want to try it without some definitive troublesooting, I think I have a resistor too, but not sure at this point where it is at...
Voltages correct b4 and after, with both key...
Probably the solenoid welded itself shut. Could be the control card if the output transistor failed short.
The solenoid main lugs should have 24 volts measured at the top or resistor side with key on, engine off. The lug with three orange wires (2 large, one small) should be 0 volts except...
I have a M1028 that just started wanting to smoke the resistor on the firewall, that is for the glowplug system, need help with working through the problem, is it the glowplugcard, the resistor, the solenoid relay, or the glowplugs...???
Hey Joe
I need help wit mine also, It is doing what David described in his last paragraph just before he figured out what was wrong with his(except in my case, everything has worked the whole time I have owned the truck) but mine just all the sudden, just started with this problem this morning,(...
Have a few questions on getting this M1028 on the road again. Here's the quick back story.
Picked it up 2 weeks from Sheriffs dept. w 33k miles on it. They owned it since 1996 when they got from military with 13k on it. Tires looked new but had a 2010 date code , so been sitting a while...
Keith_J, Thank you for the replies. In most images/diagrams I've seen the greenish wire is adjacent to the 12V terminal and the pink/black is next to the glowplug terminal. I just don't want to hook it up incorrectly and burn up anything...including the new control card I purchased.

Wiring diagrams are function specific, glowplug controller card is found in the -34 TM appendix E-7. Thanks for making provenance clear. How many crayons did you find under the seat? Ammonia works well to clean the spittle from the windows ;)
I got the truck direct from the USMC. They added the tank. The rectangle plug is for a glowplug controller? I've searched all tm's and can't find this plug on a wiring harness for dash.
Interesting. So turn key to on position, it will fire the glowplugs and light on the dash as pre glow until temperature good enough to start. Start and it will cycle after glow until the motor temps rise and idle smooths out.
And the original system makes it easy to detect when GP are going...
Welp, I just got a new GP temperature sensor because I accidentally broke the old one, and I got a new GP wiring harness from HW that came in today because there were all these bare wires going up into the dash and I was tired of looking at them. Pretty sure there's still a GP card in the truck...
...diagrams (corrected) are available. Yes, the new card is expensive but all other parts are inexpensive.
While a push button is dead simple, the only real benefit would be a plausible theft deterrent.
I would recommend looking over the existing glowplugcard and make a financial decision.
...be a really stupid question, but it's been bugging me since it crossed my mind.
I am replacing the glowplug harness between the glowplugcard and the glowplug relay/temperature sensor due to frayed wires. The way the truck sits, he has a manual glowplug button wired to push 12V directly...
...Odometer reads 10,500 (no idea if that's accurate), it appears to be relatively rust free. It has a manual glowplug button and the glowplugcard has been bypassed. There is a manual cutoff switch on the dash to disconnect the batteries. Only apparent leak is on the fuel filler line. The...
Vacuum pump. Glowplug temperature sensor. It senses the coolant temperature and sends the signal to the control card and then sends the signal to the glowplug solenoid.
Part # NTK EF 0074 Amazon...
Yessir glowplugs and everything work fine. I think the harness is original, only thing he added was some aftermarket LED blocks on the front grille guard for better night visibility.
I could get it to crank and start until last weekend, seems like the starter he put in died. Took the...
...of this forum...it has all the info you need to go over all the wiring plus there's one just on the alternators to get them to work right as well...this stuff is pretty straight forward to get going...it doesn't look like the harness has been chopped up...does the glowplugcard still work ?
