CUCV early Glow Plug burn out - What is the cause?

Thanks so much for the tips, now that you brought that up I think that I may have done that originally with the line. Also the rod didn't fall out this time, I even felt in there a bit and didn't feel anything. But I thought it was just my memory crossing over to something else I had worked on...

CUCV early Glow Plug burn out - What is the cause?

...to the block. If need be I think there's a stud that holds the steel line tight to the block...can pop that loose too. As far as the glow plug card you don't need to remove the card or do much other than wire a ground switch to the second wire in the gp harness...can get the wait light if you...

CUCV early Glow Plug burn out - What is the cause?

Hi TechnoWeenie, appreciate the post. I just recently realized that my batteries could be a bit weak. I do have an "emergency" button override already installed in my GP system, but I only intended to use it if the card failed or etc. I also installed a new GP card in the year or so after I...

    M1008 Hard Start

Update: no dice. I cleaned the contacts on the glow plug card with an eraser. Same results. I'm going to start fresh with testing the glow plugs this weekend. I just replaced them 6 weeks ago. If I'm burning thru them that fast then I've got another problem. The CUCV is gunna have to take a...

    M1008 Hard Start

I'm going to try to isolate the system tomorrow. It was 73 today. I haven't had the GP controller card in since the glow plug system went crazy. I'll clean the contacts and try again to see if it resolves the wait light. I completely understand the risks involved with ether and glow plugged...

    M1008 Hard Start

...you have to have glow plugs glowing to start the engine when it is cold. Did you use an eraser to clean the contacts at the end of the glow plug card? You could also get a remote starter switch to “hot wire” the glow plugs bypassing the solenoid and card to isolate heat or fuel as your issue.

CUCV early Glow Plug burn out - What is the cause?

...and/or relay could fail 'on' and keep glow plugs on - killing them and the battery - - I had this happen personally actually. The glow plug card will sense low temp - run through a cycle - notice it's not heating and repeat attempting to heat. It's supposed to have a timeout if temp doesn't...

CUCV early Glow Plug burn out - What is the cause?

Yep, we have some cold weather at times during the winters here. Used to live in Indiana, in fall of 2013 I was looking forward to moving this far south... but the winters followed us 🙄 One guy we knew at the time when we first moved here, said that winter was the worst he'd seen in 35 years...

    Crank no start

Done the glow plug card bypass tonight, got power at glow plugs, still nothing. ( will pull some tomorrow, make sure they're getting hot ) On the GP solenoid, the blue wire is live, but the bypass puts negative to it, is this right? Got fuel through filter, only very small amount at...

CUCV early Glow Plug burn out - What is the cause?

...is on the rear of the drivers side head....way back by the vacuum pump. The manual switch if you did a ground to the 3rd wire on the glow plug card harness you can use that with the card installed. I assume you have a gauge for the temp that isn't stock? Yes glow plugs should last a...

CUCV early Glow Plug burn out - What is the cause?

...than it actually is, but it still gives me a general idea. With that said, I did not know that the temp sensor also controlled the glow plug card. Should have thought about that though 🙄 I do have a GP manual override safety switch that I could use (after replacing plugs) but would...

CUCV early Glow Plug burn out - What is the cause?

...Second is the single wire temp sensor, or double if it's been changed, could be broken or the wire is not giving resistance to the glow plug card, making the glows turn on for the maximum amount of time plus the long 3 after burns. Either one is pretty easy to find with a basic dvom hooked to...

CUCV crank NO START troubleshooting and questions

Okay good to know I do not know if I want to replace the lift pump and then try and fire it up before I do the glow plugs because from what it sounds like there are diffidently some that are toast at this point from what it sounds like, but if I had to put money on it I would say that it has a...

Wiring Terminals for Glow Plug Controller Card

Hey guys, Long time lurker, first time poster. I have searched multiple threads and online sources but I cannot find a clear answer. Someone has previously cut some wires from my stock glow plug controller card. I am looking to rewire the truck back to stock but some of the wires have been...

    Cucv glow plug wiring

I realize this is an old post but I stumbled across it while searching for some info on my M1008. I have just replaced this rear temp sender in my truck with the SU102 from Autozone (I found the part number here on SS). Once I got the sender, I realized its a late model sender for a LS engine...

    Glow plug controller malfunction

After watching video, so yes I knew about the on off cycle for after the original run of the plugs but it would go into the short cycle sequence right away. I do think my glow plugs might be part of the issue now that I’ve bypassed because even with it being 80f outside today still took 3 tries...

    Glow plug controller malfunction

Sorry I’m sure this has been covered but I couldn’t find it looking on my tiny phone screen. I recently purchased a 1986 M1008 from government auction. While testing the gp controller I found it was actually triggering the solenoid but it kept kicking on and off. But functioned fine when I...
