Batteries and alternators seem to be right
- on to cleaning, new top seal, cleaning, replace back window, cleaning… at some point prepping for and then paint
My plan was to replace the starter and have -what I guessed was- the original rebuilt. I prefer rebuilt originals.
What came off (picture) was the smaller gear reduction type. I read Chevy started using these in ‘88, so now I’m thinking this might have been a replacement and probably no need to...
A couple (maybe few) weeks back, before I went down the rabbit hole of the charging system- I had brought my truck to my yard (40+ mile trip) and (I think) the next day the batteries were dead. Early this morning one of my superintendents was out where the truck is - tail lights were on. He...
Both alternators rebuilt
When engine is revved or even driven at 55mph the #2 alternator idiot light flashes
Gauge good
gauge on battery good -I had someone watch it while it revved/made the light flash
First time it happened I tighten the belt, second time tighten it a little more.
Upon turn...
What is this - this alternator doesn’t have a ground to the case. Does this replace the ground? I’m putting in an aftermarket until tomorrow get this one rebuilt - should I run a ground wire?
Tested .83-.84.
Thought maybe it could be the battery. Bought/installed a new battery. Took the one that was in the truck to an auto parts store where a young fellow told me - “it’s good just needs to be charged”.
Tested the alternators- both good.
Just for grins re-ran the above… this time .03.
I’ve been keeping an eye on front battery (about 5 months old) - occasionally having to jump it from another vehicle. The #1 alternator has been rebuild - dash lights show both alternators to be working. The morning after my 40 mile trip the battery was dead, but jumped off easily/quickly.
I...
Considering the cut wires on either side - I’m guessing it had something to do with the radio.
Yes, that metal thing behind the air cleaner. And yes (again) I know these wires need attention…
I think I have the Blazer somewhat ready to drive (fingers crossed/knock on wood). Now I’m thinking gauges. Water temp & oil pressure seem pretty straight forward.
Will I need to know (somehow) the RPM’s so I can calibrate the tach… so I’ll know the RPM’s?
Thinking of this tach - unless someone...
Flex plate wasn’t broken or bent, no loose bolts. Removed cover (started truck) no clunking sound, checked flex plate. Filed a bit off of the interior edge of the cover, reinstalled cover while lever towards the front of the motor.
I find it kinda strange there was nothing to”fix”.
I have an unknown sound on my M1009. Might be starter heat shield rattling, might be broken flex plate, or..? I’m going to crawl under/over/around with my stethoscope to see if I can locate the origin of this noise. I was, also, going to post a video of this mystery sound to see if anyone had...
55° in central Texas this AM. Truck started as expected, little smoke without advance/high idle, but started right up. Planning temp sensors, temp gauge, all the fun stuff.
Slammed the door as usual… and, bamm! I’m in door resto-mode.
Truck is not where I am, but will be tomorrow. Let me be sure I understand correctly.
There is a temp sensor - back of passenger head. It runs the injection pump advance and high idle - via a green wire (to both?). The wire should have voltage prior to warmup -no voltage after.
The truck can...
