You should charge your batteries up and then with the ignition off run an ammeter in series with the negative cable lead and the negative post of your battery to see if you have a parasitic draw.

This is interesting as it is only at 13 or so volts at idle so it is acting like you described. There is no negative post, it is only grounded through the case. I'm not sure of the exact size of the positive wire but it didn't strike me as being too small.
The last alternator was the exact...
Well, the fun isn't over yet. The new alternator is fine at idle and low speeds but as soon as I get on the highway it is outputting 16+ volts. Looks like I got a bad alternator from napa.
Here is a quick video after install. https://youtu.be/y9j1bg4pmIA
The positive terminal of the driver side alternator is not even connected. Is there any reason I should leave this alternator on the truck?
The passenger side alternator is just a case grounded 84 eldorado alternator. The two...
Thanks for the help! I'll try to get some pictures up. The Gen II alternator that I took out the other day was the same model as the 84 eldorado alternator. I'm just going to replace it with another case grounded alternator. When I have some more time I will try to convert it back to the stock...
My Gen II alternator started experiencing intermittent overvoltage so I finally started looking at the charging system.
The Gen I alternator has no positive lead attached so it does not appear to be part of the charging circuit at the moment.
Both batteries are charging at the exact same...
Thanks for the advice. I'm going to just take the trailer to my home town and store it. Might use it to sandblast and paint just for some practice.
About a two hour drive though. I plan on leaving late when it is cold out and taking a few breaks along the way to keep the tranny cool.
Wow, that was quick. Thank you guys. It came with the M1009 I just bought. The previous owner modified a pintle to the correct height to tow the trailer with the M1009. Definitely needs a tranny cooler for that amount of weight.
Thanks for the help. I'm over in the Spokane area. I had no idea you could upload photos directly. I will do that in the future.
I wasn't too crazy about having a roll cage but whoever put it in did a nice job. The owner said it would go in to 4H with no problems but 4L required you to shift...
Bought M1009 today.
Picked up the one I posted about earlier.
Anyone know what type of trailer this is? It came with it. Would it make a 2 hour drive without a tranny cooler? I'm super stoked to start fixing her up and learning about these vehicles...
