This may or may not pertain, but I have run into a few cars with the same symtom. They had a capacitor or "condenser"

Dental floss works pretty good. Just hook an edge and use it in a sawing
motion back and forth. 3M also makes a glue remover. It works good on
the residue left. Only use it outside. I almost didn't make it out of the garage.
