When I went home for lunch I opened the doors on the barn to let some air flow in. I have grass to mow today and will do some more painting after I get done with that. Watching paint dry is a very dull job. And waiting and rushing it makes matters worse. Best just leave it alone and let it dry...
All those bolt on battery cable ends are scrap. they are temporary only. You need to get a good connection at the battery and in the cable ends. Get some made up at a competent electrical shop. I have them made up all the time. hey cost me about $75. for a new set and the troubles are gone. That...
Success. It was threatening rain but the parts are painted on one side. It was paint and run. All parts are back in the barn till tomorrow. I have to paint a few parts on the other side. This paint takes a minimum of 48 hours to thoroughly dry. But that is fine with me. No hurry. I like it that...
They call that a closed nose starter or a mudder starter nose. Smaller open is in theory allow less mud and dirt in. Also beefs up the strength of the starter nose. Makes sense. More material stronger nose. I seen cast steel starter noses on CUCV's in the past. You should be good. Just make sure...
Hot ground can come from low amperage in the batteries. have the batteries load tested and make double sure they are fully charged and able to do the job. Good Luck.
Put 12 volts to the injection pump and cross the 2 heavy wires at the starter relay under the dash at the radio. Make sure to glow the glow plugs right before you attempt to crank it over. I started them on the floor that way. Good Luck. Report back.
The more changes you make the more complicated the issue becomes. I always look at new trucks with issues as what have we installed on this truck that could have caused the problem. Many times I find a pinched wire or loose ground as the cause. But if you keep changing parts you are not solving...
Not really a whole lot of reportable progress. Mostly sanding parts. I hope to be putting some paint on early next week. Seasonal race to get the truck painted and let it set over winter and assemble as weather permits. But not really a race. I can survive without it. Good things take time and...
Thats a loaded question. But here you go. I use Diesel Care in Memphis. They run ads on Ebay and sell good stuff. I have put many on CUCV's and 6.9,7.3 Fords also. No issues. They pay shipping both ways. Less than $400. last time I used them. But that is my option. Let the sky be the limit. Good...
Tonight was another night that may seem like not a lot was completed. If I would not have taken this gate off of this M1009 I would say it was never on it before. That rear gate can be a task to get properly adjusted and all the body lines aligned. I had to add shims to the side latches and...
An alternator shop can bench test that alternator if you remove it. Many times the light issues are internal to the alternator. Good Luck. Have a Great Day and Be Safe.
This is the rear bumper I have chosen to use. For the simple fact that it has been blasted and has the powder coated primer on it. I will hand sand and work finish putty out in the few pits it has. This was the worst CUCV bumper I had ever seen for rust. So I feel like I am preserving a part...
Bumpers from the collection
I have a massive collection of CUCV parts. Back in the day when I was rebuilding them on a daily basis I would experiment with processes. I had some bumpers sand blasted and powder coated in a primer powder coat. I would sand and paint them 10 at a time. Some didn't...
This is a sample of the flat lime green that I did not like. I didn't keep it on the M1009 very long. Those are back in about 2012 as the date stamp says.
I don't have the part number at hand. I could look it up in the GM parts manual. It is not a special switch. It is the same switch as the civilian vehicles thru the years. If the question is still open on Monday I will answer it when I get to my books. Good Luck.
Check into an injection pump, fuel filter, lift pump, clogged fuel sock, fuel return lines, sounds like it is fuel related. Tough one to call. Check what I listed and not in that order. But Good Luck. Knowing things about a diesel is helpful.
Yes I get the color code. But I do not have that information. The labels were in bad shape and my Wife spent a considerable amount of time deciphering the numbers and comparing the labels and numbers. So far they have been accurate. I did have 2 gallons of that flat lime green like M880's had...
The labels are just white paper and in very bad shape. I (Wife) sorted out the paint a few years back by using the bar codes. I have a few different greens, a brown and a black. All lusterless alkyd enamel. They were turned in as waste paint at the local chemical collection station. I picked...
