...what I'm interested in.
Has anyone made aftermarket mats like WeatherTech or similar products yet?
I want to use either a Fat Mat or Dynamat, then I'd like to install something over it.
I looked up to see if you can paint over these, and there's no clear answer.
I was thinking to rhino...
This is what I did.
I bought a 5X5 piece of wood we got at McCoy's lumber. Neither Lowes or HD had that off the shelf. I dynamatted one complete side and then used the extra at the top where my overhead speakers are mounted over the drive and passenger seats. The speakers are in a Plan B...
I use Dynamat in the cab. Do you hear a notable difference with it on the hood? I also put 1/2” horse trailer mat on the floor of the cab. That really brought the noise down.
I have had good luck with Dynamat. Both inside the hood and the cab. I do not understand the rusting issue as water does not get inside the hood?

...and tinny sound.... I may have used more than one box, not sure as I always have some left overs from the job before! Generally use this, or dynamat depending on the scope of the job!
Really quite unlike my younger military days when we used cardboard on the floors in dueces, jeeps and...
Thanks Hupp for your reply. I’ve pretty much decided on the undercoating product I’m going to use, however I am still up in the air regarding an interior insulation product. You say 3M Peel &Stick? Where would an old fart like me learn about that product?
...fresh media blasted metal!!!!
I generally soundproof the inside of vehicle. The 3M peel and stick is effective, and much cheaper than the Dynamat products. Have used both, and numerous others. My 08 hasn't been road driven since restored (pending bed or flatbed on the back) but with some...
A lot of states will not allow headsets while driving as a function of safety.
Heat/Sound proofing materials (Dynamat or similar) will change your HMMWV from a rattle box to a half way decent ride. We do that here as standard operating procedure!
...do a swap and pay labor and end up ~$16 - $17k, there's still meat on the bone if I want to sell it.
Plan is to completely do up the inside (dynamat, new seats etc.) and use it primarily around the property as a work truck, but make it nice enough to get my wife & daughter willing to ride in...
18 minute vid goes way past my attention span (I'm lazy, I admit it).
How is that material applied:
- Self-adhesive?
- Glue-on?
Either way, the fit is excellent. Nice work!
Ok, finally got the Dynamat hood liner installed (thanks to a great video guide by Dave Anderson ). Got to do a decent road test, and sound levels are down to 78-81 dB (without the radiator fan running), down from the original 94 dB with no fan. Huge difference! With the radiator fan, levels got...
...and ring connected - no bare wires here.
I plan on sealing off the electronics by flex-taping the drain holes and coating the compartments with Dynamat.
Next up:
4 tan bucket seats
New top and curtain (once they are in stock again - manufacturers are back ordered until next month)...
...seats, so went full jeep replacement seats for comfort and water / dirt resistance. Rubberized self-adhesive diamond plate applied over dynamat. Wired USB chargers on a 12v system under the radio tray, painted and disguised to still look milspec.
12k WARN winch, surplus server cases modified...
...used Peel and Seal flashing or the equivalent for sound deadening on the underside of the HMMWV body?
I have actually used it instead of Dynamat and it seemed to work well. The alternative is a spray like Lizard Skin and that has a tendency to chip or flake off. I would think it would work...
The A1 and A1R originally have some sound insulation “paint” on the back wall inside . It’s different from the A0 Cabs that are just bare metal. If you press it with your nail you feel it’s somewhat soft.

...to insulate the cab (aka the 94 dB EZ Bake Oven), starting with Lizard Skin sound control; ceramic insulation next week for heat, then some Dynamat hood liner. The Lizard Skin is easy to apply, and easy to clean up (water based). So far, seems to really work based on just a "tap test" (rap...
Seen here installing dynamat with the self-adhesive rubber diamond plate over top where the insulation was missing or otherwise rotting.
Additionally, the aviation-grade voice activated intercom with headsets is installed.
Since this is a family vehicle (of sorts), I did big self-adhesive...
