    Starter ran off on me

It lasted 30+ years if that's wimpy. I would be willing to bet it was cranked hard and long on weak under charged batteries. That will kill it every time. If it had good batteries it could be cranked a long time with the starter relay engaged/stuck. And what is non-electronic wiring? Have a...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

Today was a very productive day and I was able to get a lot of work completed. I wish I could get more but that is the way it always goes. I did take a break and go to a carnival with my family. That counts. I cleaned up the rubbers for the front cab and hood hinges. I installed the hood...

But wait, there's more: No ground for horn at steering column

The turn signals are live with the key off. That is normal for the CUCV.

But wait, there's more: No ground for horn at steering column

Tough call. I thought the horn worked by completing a ground and activating a relay. But I am not well trained in electrical issues, I can fix them most times just by shear determination and copying of a unit that functions as designed. That is a huge help to copy and paste to the one yo are...

    Correct front rotors?

KrispyKris A quick word on the lock pin in the nut. I have encountered the pin broken and inset. If you are in a pinch you can set the nut face down on a piece of wood and use a 1/16" punch to drive the pin out a bit more. It will last forever like that if you are the one servicing the axles...

    Front axle spring bushings

I use Energy Suspension bushings. The shackles are the same thing on a K30 as they are on a K5. The front eye bushings on the spring can be a joy to get out. I heat the sleeve and make a big mess but they come out. Lately I have just been replacing all 4 springs. After all they have been sitting...

    1008 surging problem.

It seems that's the trend to let everyone hanging in suspense. Happens everyday on posts.

    M1009 wont start

Did you pull the 8 out that you currently have and check/test them? I mean just putting glow plugs in does not always fix the issue. Have you checked for current at the plugs? You could put new glow plugs in and it still won't start. It may burn them up also. Just saying find out what is wrong...

Looking for a new idle air control valve

Raleighpatriot I understand your description. It was lost in translation but yes it will idle rough when cold with out the fast idle solenoid. Sort of hunting idle. Your guy is on track and maybe just at a loss for words on describing the part you need. But the price sounds right and you can...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

Tonight was a good productive night. I installed the front shocks the steering stabilizer and the energy suspension motor mount inserts. I also removed all my bins full of parts from a storage bin outside. I brought them inside the barn and I can ;look at them and reassemble them parts till they...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

Tonight was a slow progress night but it is something that needs to be done. I cleaned all the bump stops and reinstalled them on the frame. I installed my remanufactured power steering gear box on the frame and painted the new drag link assembly. I will install the drag link tomorrow, install...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

Today after work I went out and salvaged some more parts for my current build. I have a few core supports in my barn but I wanted to get the last one I had out in the field and get the core support put to use. I also removed a bunch of bolts from parts I want to install on the current build. It...

That was 2 years ago I think he has it all figured out and the vehicle has been replaced by now. Lets hope.

    M1009 wont start

If it were mine I would remove all the glow plugs and bench test them. See up front if they get hot or NOT. Takes about 20 minutes start to finish. But that's me. Good Luck. I like to see things so I dig deeper then the average person.

    Fuel Gauge Mystery Continues...

That could be any ground connected to the harness that is robbing/pulling ground thru another source. Bad grounds will drive you crazy. Once found it will never be the same ground location on the next one. Good Luck. You seem to be sniffing it out. Most would have given up.

I seen that. It is a new anodized gold plated hose clip/clamp that holds the hose into the bracket. I did a double take on tat when I posted. Rust? No way. But good call. It caught my eye also. Thank you.

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

The old frame is pretty well stripped of anything I need. It is twisted and scrap as far as I am concerned. I will cut it up for the mounts and cross members. The last picture it is starting to take shape again. Being built by hand and cleaning and painting every piece takes lots of time and...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

Today I could have done more if I would have just Wham Bammed the plumbing from the wrecked frame to the new frame. But I didn't. I removed the plumbing and cleaned and scrubbed it all. Used DX330 to clean and wash it and then painted it with blue spray paint I had on hand. Nice sunny day so I...

    M1009 - Fuel delivery problem?

Reading directly from the military TM 9-2320-289-10 Across the board M1008/M1008A1, M1009, M1010, M1028/M1028A1/M1028A2, M1031. All listed in the TM as 135 BHP at 3600 RPM. So not sure where the other ratings came from. I read it on the emissions sticker also. Not to argue. I just don't want to...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

I had the frame sand blasted/primed and painted with automotive paint and primer. It is a bit dusty in the pictures from leaning against the wall of my shop since March. I am not worried about the light dust. After it is built and complete I can give it a wash job. I am sure it will get dirty...
