typically the gen light is indicating that the alt is not charging, but not always (thier finicky)
As far as the alt stuff, on my truck almost nothing tested correctly with only 1 bad alt...take them and have them tested but remember to tell them to ground the isolated ground for test or it...
I will do more wiki checks tomarrow and also those suggested in the crash-af post

it's funny how this is all working...i dont know or really understand electricty, I got the basics. I have a couple buddies that...
I changed relay because it didn't click and truck didn't start, it was the first time it didn't click so I messed with it and figured it probably went bad.
Yes, the engine is cold when measuring voltages, but because the solenoid doesn't (click) I have no voltage to GP.
orange wire was on...
napa couldn't tell me if it has an isolated relay coil...so I will have to trust that the info in the faq section of this forum is accurate. I am also curious about the thread indicating the small orange wire on relay needing to be placed on opposite big post (lower one) (diagram is wrong). Can...
thank you
the napa relay i'm running is in the faq section of this site....cheap version of the usable models! It is simple what I need... a working example listed in english, not TM jibberish. The manuals do give you an idea of how stuff goes, but are ridiculous compared to real schmatics... I...

ok, ok didn't mean to rile anyone up....I did the research and this is what I turned up. I dont know how different things are from state to state or if your results will be the same 800 miles away... where I bought my iso ground alt I asked what had the same case minus the ground, this is what I...

1 new 230.00 alternator (pass side) and 1 that was existing, but tested fine. in order from driver to passender at testing points it goes 14.7dr.....14.7 pass at NG.....was 22.3 and diminished to 19.6 at pass side pos. and front battery was as dead as it can get shortly...
I'm glad to be able to return the favor of info.....here it is.
There was a post a while back I found yesterday about non isolated ground alts on the driver side. The thread indicated that a 74 cadillac alt was 78 amp and would work/fit into desired spot. Only half right. The cadillac...

another one for the pros here, what does tan wire on isolated ground go to (gen 2) since gen 1 goes to ground? approxamately 12 guage wire. If tan wire goes to suppressor than where is suppressor and what does it look...

I just bought this m1008:-), had alt issue from start. I paid a small fortune for alt, with isolated ground(drivers side)and still no charge, no gen 1 light or anything. Some info i printed out from other threads suggests that the pass side alt is the one with isolated ground......by the way...
I beleive it's an eaton posi unit. In another direction, for the civy gm 3/4 ton trucks, they took a 1/2 ton front diff and the bad boy 10.5" 14 bolt in the rear and basically equalled it to 3/4 ton:roll:
does anyone know where to find a cheap altenator for an 84 1008,(drivers side)? Also, if I were to build a custom bracket to tow a fullsize chevy truck with the dual hookup on a 1008(not the pintle or receiver) would it last, what is the duty rating for the hook ups on the truck...
