    Answering Duplicate Thread Questions

I think the better answer would be to start moving posts that contain useful information over to the wiki, and leave the boards as they are. -Chuck

    Deuce transmission woes

Every M35A2 has a rod that comes out of the back of the transmission. Back in the early days, that rod was used in the sprag transfer case to set the correct direction for travel. Its purpose kind of faded when the M35A2's were all converted from sprag transfer cases to the air shift style...

Need some help with an oil leak.

The path is from the crankshaft bearing, down the shaft into the hole where the shaft, and keyway fit into the balancer, and out the bolt hole. It needs to be sealed, or it will leak. This is a very common place for a leak on almost all engines. -Chuck

Need some help with an oil leak.

Did you remember to use sealer on the balancer's bolt threads? Basically, any bolt that passes into the crankcase side of the oil seal needs sealant. -Chuck

    Title

Sorry, but that is not true! GL will not start the SF97 process until after you have picked up your lot. If they issued one for you prior to your lot's removal, it was done by mistake. -Chuck

    Lugs OVERTIGHTENED

That's a very specific no-no on lug bolts. They are designed to be left dry. If you use grease on the threads, you will over tighten them, and they may very well back off while driving. The only lubricant that is acceptable on lug nuts/bolts is something very light weight like 3-in-1 oil, or...

    Title

Everything you could possibly want to know about the process is clearly spelled out on the GL website. In short, you can do nothing until your EUC has cleared, and you have removed the trucks from government property. After you have done that, and have verified the VIN, truck model, and weight...

    Axel leak driving me crazy

Uhmmm... Oil doesn't dry, it just picks up dirt... and brake fluid takes weeks to dry. Only water dries that quickly. Glad you got it worked out. -Chuck

    Lugs OVERTIGHTENED

Also, unless you were watching the mechanic when he did the work, it is possible that he twisted off several of the lugs and replaced them with what he had on hand. Always check to be sure that the lugs are the correct thread. I have found trucks with a couple of lefts stuck on the right side...

cleaning the brake lines and master cylinder

There is only one way to clean a brake system, and that is to disassemble all of the brake cylinders (master, air assist, and wheel) and wash them out. The brake lines can be flushed with brake fluid. However, it is fairly unlikely that the sand in the master cylinder got into the rest of the...

Need some help re: City Ordinances

Before taking a recorder into such a situation, I suggest that you get familiar with your state's laws. In Maryland, both parties must give their permission to be recorded, or you will come up against the state's wiretap law. Monica Lewinsky's former friend Linda R. Tripp was indicted in...

Need some help re: City Ordinances

The problem with the Freedom of Information Act is: 1) it takes a very long time, and 2) the agency can redact any information that they feel may compromise their mission... things like the names of accusers. -Chuck

Need some help re: City Ordinances

The answer is super simple: Take a copy of the ordinance and hi-lite the words "property", and "public right-of-way" as they appear in the ordinance. Bring it in to the inspector that wrote the citation, and have him explain to you the difference between "property" and "public right-of-way"...

Need some help re: City Ordinances

According to Black's Law Dictionary: Property is... that which belongs exclusively to one. The definition gets much deeper (public property, private property, etc...), but that is the second sentence in a very long definition. The authors of the bill had a distinct reason for using both...

Need some help re: City Ordinances

My F250 3/4 ton PU truck has a carrying capacity of 3500 lbs. Last I checked, that was above 1-1/2 T... Pay particular attention to the terms property, and right-of-way: Subsection (a) only applies to: truck-tractor, road tractor, semitrailer, bus, trailer, or truck... Subsection (b) only...

Was told to get "back-up" lights, so,,,,,,

Too much work to get right. Just use the 1st-neutral-reverse rod that comes out of the back of the deuce's transmission. Mount a plunger switch behind the rod so that it gets pushed when the rod is fully extended (reverse). -Chuck

Hood latch poked hole in radiator

I have some issues with the hood latch on my deuce too. The radiator is about 1/2 inch too far forward at the top, and part of the latch's mounting bracket can hook the solder seam on the radiator tank. The only way to open my hood is to pull out on the hood's handle to make more clearance...

non englist speeking guy hit me picking up at GL

She had a driver's license, but she wasn't carrying her license, and the car's registration, while she was driving. No identification, and get in a fairly major accident, and off you go to the station. As to spelling, any reasonable web browser will clue you in to all of your misspelled words...
