Empty lowboy trailer available from New Mexico to Pennsilvania 6/15 - 6/18.

I've got 2 crates banded together @ Mechanicsburg I'd like to get out West if you can fit it on. GL says 2' W x 8'L x 16" tall & 750 pounds

    Allison M916 + Mk48 Cab = 6x6 "FEMTT"

I wasn't 100% positive what these were for, so thanks for confirming their use. I knew these were different than the ones on the MK18A1 beds that I have, but went ahead with the purchase since they went pretty cheap and I would be able to use them to tie these two shelters together. These were...

    Allison M916 + Mk48 Cab = 6x6 "FEMTT"

Looks great! I can't quite tell from the pictures if you had to space the dump bed up off the FEMTT frame or if the dump bed came with enough of a sub frame with the lift cylinder to clear everything on the FEMTT. Are the twist locks you're looking for like this one? It's a little less than...

Fontana truck center not picking up the phone?

I've had pretty good luck reaching them if I call early - say before 9AM; not so good in the afternoon. I agree with gimpyrobb that if you want to increase your odds of getting a response to your message, call the Scottsdale home office, especially if it is getting to be a problem or if you...

    mk48 night mare

Congratulations! That looked like a huge job. I'm curious what you will find if/when you look into what failed on the transfer case. Put it to work and have fun with it.

    923 Harsh Shift from 1st to 2nd

The mechanism to make a shift soft when the truck is accelerating under power is the trans letting the clutches slip a little by applying the oil pressure a little bit gradually. We all know what happens if you slip the clutch too much though. It's a trade off between the wear & tear on those...

    Het M1070 unloaded fuel economy

Does he run a lowboy? I think you would need a double drop since the HET is so tall.

    AC for the MK48 LVS

Has anyone figured out an AC unit for the MK48? I've seen a couple of threads looking, but no solid answer on one that someone has actually installed. A couple of photos below from when we tried out the MK18A1 by loading & unloading a 20' container. With contents container weighed about...

    mk48 night mare

As they say, great minds think alike! Actually, I hadn't heard of it before I learned it from one of the drillers I worked with about 5 years ago. It has really helped a lot on projects where there are a lot of different hoses. I posted to make a tiny payback for all the knowledge I've...

    mk48 night mare

I'd be in for a set if it happens.

    mk48 night mare

Many of the drill rigs we work on have even more hoses and a good system of marking/labeling them can save a lot of time when it goes back together. We used different color zip ties. Or even better, we got some old 25 pair phone cable and cut 6" lengths. They have a standard color code scheme...

"How to get a HET in life..." - M1070 Acquisition thread

This made me curious about how the HET compares to something like a Kenworth T800 with a similar wheel base and to other mv. The TM_9-2320-360-10 lists a 67.9' turning radius for HET without trailer, wheel base appears to be 215". The Kenworth book didn't list any tridems, but heavy tandems...

    sliding 5th wheel hitches

You could look into mounting the articulating 5th wheel onto the civilian slider. I've got a slider on the ground & can send photos if you'd like. They should be cheap to buy, we have taken them off Ford L9000 tractors purchased at GSA auctions that we turned into flatbeds. We ended up...

"How to get a HET in life..." - M1070 Acquisition thread

I'm sure that is high range, I took a quick look at TM & couldn't find a table for low range or what the high/low ratios were so you could figure it out. I did see where the TM repeatedly warned about not exceeding 1200 rpm when in low range, so it would be SLOW.

I hadn't met Tigger, but the Steel Soldiers' responses are a tribute to him and the community. Our prayers for him and his family.

Most ridiculous workaround ever, or a COOL idea? (Air conditioning)

That had to be brutal in especially considering you had plenty of hot machinery adding to the heat gain. When its really hot you have to do something or you are out of commission. I remember a couple of years ago 3 workers in the oil patch around Bakersfield CA died in a week when the first hot...

Most ridiculous workaround ever, or a COOL idea? (Air conditioning)

I'm pretty sure I saw some sort of cooling vest for pilots a few months ago on GL, but didn't pay that much attention. We occasionally had to work in full hazmat waterproof suits for environmental drilling- brutal if outside temp was over 80 degrees. We would just wear light cotton shorts &...

    Pm'ing Pic's

When I'm trying to drag down from photo collection I've uploaded to the bottom of "manage attachments " window to attach to post, what I have noticed that more than 75% of the time the photos just won't stick in bottom window, even after repeatedly selecting the ones I want & dragging them down...

What sized split rim does a 16.00 super fit?

I'm guessing you were thinking of the "Dayton" style wheel & hub.
