I decided to to turn up the fuel delivery on my Deuce a tad, without benefit of a boost or EGT gauge. I figured turning it up one flat on the adjusting nut wouldnt get me in too much trouble since 1. My deuce seems a little short on power; 2. I don't get any smoke no matter what I do, and 3. I...
Don't know how far Grass Valley is from Port Hueneme, between Malibu and Santa Barbara, but GL usually auctions 10 or more trucks at a time there. At the last auction in March prices ranged from $500-$1850. If you could get out there with someone knowledgeable in Deuces, I suspect you can pick...
I've only had my grille cover on for about a month, but haven't noticed a significant difference. Before I installed the cover, in cool weather (70s) and moderate rural driving the temp never gets above 160; after a 10-15 mile run at 50-55 mph it would get as high as 170. Since installing the...
OK, I think I'm getting the drift here. Stock engine with mild fuel delivery adjustment may top out at 6-7 psi boost. Up the fuel delivery, boost and EGT go up. Looks like maybe 15 psi max boost as long as EGT stays reasonable. So a 30 psi gauge would be sensible, if i can get to 15 psi boost...
Like many on this board, I'm thinking of turning up the fuel in my Deuce for a little more power, but I want to do it safely. I will install a boost gauge and pyrometer before I do anything else.
My first question is how much boost does a stock C or D turbo put out? Most people seem to run 30...
Brian - a real off the cuff suggestion here - IF the trailer doesn't weigh TOO much (26' shouldn't be too heavy), you don't have to tow it TOO far, and your M-37 has a pintle hitch, you could get a dolly and tow it home with the M-37. I know the M-37 doesn't have a lot of power, but if you are...
Not the same at all. I believe the NAPA is an extended life full flow filter. The FS2500 is a bypass fillter wih extreme filtration. About 10% of the oil flows through the FS2500, over time all of the oil will make it through the filter. It supposedly filters to 1 micron (conventional full flow...
Bjorn - And how do you refuel that OTR truck running a constant 70 MPH? Low flying KC-135 perhaps? Loading and off loading would be a bear also! Just kidding, I get your point.
But you left out duty cycle. Most OTR trucks run for many hours at a time, an ideal condition. Most civillian Deuces I...
Has anyone besides me noticed the four full page ads for the FS2500 Bypass Oil Filter in the latest issue of Diesel Power magazine? I perused their web site http://www.fs2500.com/ pretty thoroughly and they make some pretty impressive, if hard to believe, claims for their filter. Things like a...
Jeff - Glad to see you reposted you pics, your original posting must have gotton lost last Saturday in the server crash. What box did you use for the gauges and where did you get it from? I'd like to make a similar setup. I have the low air pressure warning light kit from Saturn Surplus, I was...
The pinion gear is one of two gears (the other being the ring gear) in the rear axle which convert the longitudinal (fore-aft) power delivered by the driveshaft to transverse (side-to-side) power to spin the rear axle shafts which then rotates the rear tires.
The first picture is of the ring...
Actually, now there are FOUR ways - The right way, the wrong way, Joel's way, and the military way! You have obviously NEVER been in the military, Joel!
Ken - I'd read about the pinion bearing issue in some other posts on this subject. I did check mine during the seal service, I couldn't get the pinion to move at all. Thanks for the heads up though!
I had a leaking pinion seal on my rear rear axle, bought a replacement seal from Saturn Surplus for $12.50, and decided today was as good a time as any to replace it. Removing the driveshaft was pretty straightforward, pulled the cotter pin from the pinion nut and proceeded to wrench on the nut...
I owned two of the Oldsmodiesels, bought one new and one used. Loved them but blew the head gaskets on both!
CUMMINS - Fill us in on the "new" head gaskets please? Part numbers, sources, what is different, any pics? I expect that some time I'm going to have to replace my head gaskets SOME time...
Jodka - Click on Dave's (67Beast) links in his signature for more pics of his trucks. They are awesome. In another post, Dave said it took $1500 and six months of work (I think that is correct) to convert his truck from a near beater to what he has now. I don't know how he did that so cheap and...
Mike - Nothing to compare it to, there are no others in my area. Dave Allen is the closest, about 1-1/2 hours away, the one time I went to his shop he wasn't around. I assumed from the LDT465-1D on the engine plate that it was a "D" turbo (which is also what the mechanic at Selfrige ANG base...
Thanks all for the complements.
Dieselmech21, I got my cover off Ebay, cost me $25.19 plus shipping from seller vtcsm37. His name is George, phone number is 802-864-4762. Give him a call, he may have another, says he has a lot (two 40' trailers full) of M35 parts.
