Project heading to the scrap heap!

You know, last year during the leg of the East Coast Convoy from NC to MD (and back), we had a M816 5 ton wrecker with the Cummins engine in it bringing up the rear... Folks who participated in the convoy to the show in Aberdeen might remember my telling them that as long as the wrecker was...

    M37 Cargo Bows

Longhunter, The three photos I took last night of the clips that conect the headache rack to the side racks on the M37 are located at: http://www.ipass.net/cgarbee/m37rackclip1.jpg http://www.ipass.net/cgarbee/m37rackclip2.jpg http://www.ipass.net/cgarbee/m37rackclip3.jpg Tad hard to see the...

    M37 Cargo Bows

Longhunter, there are a pair of clips that connect the headache rack to the side rails that is very similar to the clips used on farm trailers and such. I'll take a couple of photos tonight when I get home (drove the M38 to work today...). The upright on the side racks has half the clip, the...

    M37 Cargo Bows

The bows for the M101 and M37 are not the same. The wood has the same cross sectional area, but the lengths off all the components are different. The corners are also different, the ones for the M37 have holes in them that you can pass a rope or strap through and have the bolts running...

    tranny lube?

Not sure what the capacities are off hand, but I tend to buy several five gallon buckets of gear oil every time I visit my local AgriSupply just because I work from one end of the yard to the other (do a M35, move onto the M37, then the M38...). The thing to look for in a GL5 to insure that it...

    DOT3 or DOT5

DOT3 was what was used... There was a really long winded discussion about this on the www.g741.org forum a short while ago... The basic consensus was to stick with DOT3/4 and flush it out every year or two even if you had just rebuilt the system...

    tires

Berg has a large add in the most recent MVMagazine... Have not delt with him yet myself, but I'm not far from him and plan to run down sometime in the near future (like when I have to visit some coworkers in the Fayetteville office...).

    Fort Gordon, Augusta GA, event?

Glad that you reminded me. Got things to do to all my trucks (figure that the M37 will make the trip right now...). Also, need to pull some parts for you... Want to figure out a meeting spot so that we can convoy? Say, Greensboro or the rest stop between Greensboro and Charlotte assuming...

    New to me M37

Add ABLinn, Sid Beck (Ace Surplus), George at Vermont Commercial Salvage, and John Bizal (Midwest Military) to your list of good folks to get M37 parts from. Tailgates are hard to find in good condition but Sheldon at Jeepanels Plus in Maine has a really nice reproduction that is priced right...

    2" reciever

I have hitches on both my deuces. Had one on my Air Force truck that I liked so much when I purchased it that I pretty much copied it on my other truck although I did change the angle braces from the front to the rear verticle legs (will update the first truck to have the same bracing at some...

    deuce convoy lights

Have the convoy lights on my truck... Great to have when I pull out of my driveway with a trailer hooked up (blind drive in a curve...). Also, use them a lot when my local MV club has a convoy or when I am participating in the East Coast Convoy on the way to the Aberdeen rally each May...

    Hercules DT3.7 diesel engine

Yeah, you found the current incarnation of the company.... Not the same as what it once was, but trying very hard (and doing pretty well at that) to be a player in the markets that they are participating in. Paul at MARS is the go to guy for the small engines suitable for use in the M37 and...

    NDT, NDCC, and NATO NDT's

Yes, I am... Sad thing about tires is that there aren't that many narrow 16" rims out there, especially on military vehicles, so you're choices of tires that actually work on the M715 and M37/M101 rims are sorta limited... There are some nice tires made overseas, but getting them into this...

    GL1 or 80W90?

The spec lube is 90w GL1. It is safe for all the bearings, works well, and is cheap... If you do use a GL5 (more modern and usually in a multi-viscosity such at 85w90 or 85w100) make sure that it also meets the MT1 specification. Some GL5 has addititives that are not friendly to yellow...

When you park your Deuce on a inclined driveway........

I've got a pair of rubber chocks just like the ones that we issue for use at work. They are on a short section of chain that is just long enough for them to both be placed on the downhill side of both the front rear and rear rear tires on the truck, or on both sides of one of the tires when I am...

    m37 pics

It is the busy season at work... couple that with helping Mom and Dad out (Dad's health has declined a bunch since Easter) and my spare time has just been melting away... I did manage to finish my instal of the rear disc brakes on my M37 this past weekend so I now have them on all four...

    Fort Gordon, Augusta GA, event?

I'm planning on riding down to the event unless something pops up at work or something... I'm also getting ready to put together a biodiesel processor that is fabricated out of an electric hot water heater (see http://www.localb100.com/cbt/appleseedprocessor/ ) since I really don't want to run...
