Recovered a transmission - 3053A with winch PTO. First time removing a deuce trans. I looked at one of my trucks beforehand and picked out a selection of appropriate tools and we headed out. Ended up being a bit of a job. Picked the trans that felt the best, popped the floorpan and top cover...
I would go to an internally regulated alternator, yes. Maybe something more modern, say from Wolverine.
I'd also look for a turbo and install boost and pyrometer gauges...but if you are happy with the power, as-is is simpler. Also, the exhaust as-is is going to be much quieter in the cab...
'70 in my yard is like that...has a leak on the outlet of the primary fuel filter. If I let the lift pump run extra long, it starts and runs better, probably because the leak lets air into the lines when it's off.
Try cracking the bleeder, I bet you get air. Air bubbles feeding into the IP...

How do you figure? Data plate looks original, not like an update plate - they usually are kind of sloppy and not all filled out. Big gauge panel. The number on the frame would tell for sure.

Long day yesterday, got 'er back on her own six tires and out of the shop. Still only one 11.00 mounted, still have to rebuild the rest of the braking system, and almost everything else. It may get back burnered or back to a yard water truck if I get my hands on the '70 A2.
