XM1027 - CUCV Crew Cab Build

My Saturday project has bled into Sunday, it's 8pm now so I'm out of time to work on this for the weekend. I'll see about splitting the engine and transmission tomorrow morning before work...

XM1027 - CUCV Crew Cab Build

Got the last two seats out, and most of the carpet. These seats didn't want to come out because the installer used aftermarket bolts and nuts (not the normally welded in seat nuts). There were a few less than ideal hole placements, this one was literally drilled right through the side of the...

XM1027 - CUCV Crew Cab Build

Yeah, okay... so I didn't wait :) I tore out the headliner (what was left of it), and the rear bench and carpet. Headliner fiberglass came out in one large brittle piece, but completely covered in two layers of crumbling foam and ripped headliner fabric... another shot towards the back...

XM1027 - CUCV Crew Cab Build

I'll make sure the progress continues :) Thanks though. I'm going to separate the transmission from the transfer case and engine this weekend so I can get rid of it, and will give a whack at cleaning up the two axles a bit so I can photograph them better. Still need to find a 3/4 ton radiator...

XM1027 - CUCV Crew Cab Build

Painted the fender... and roof... This paint is just to keep the rust from setting back in while I do the rest of the work. Also picked up the replacement drive train. Dana 60 front (has kingpins, so that's awesome), Dana 70 is not disc brake as originally expected (fine, about $500 to...

    Humvees in boneyard--------

But then the civilian H1 market would have to deal with "realistic" pricing... I remember in the '90s you could get an H1 out of Ranger-Joe's for 30K new - No sat-nav or leather thought :). In general, I agree - we should be able to buy them. They are a 1984-ish era vehicle that met 1984...

XM1027 - CUCV Crew Cab Build

I can't wait :jumpin:, but sadly I have to. I have limited time during the week to work on this (job first, then play), and my weekend time is "sparse" since I have my 2-year-old all day (wife works). This weekend, the project is to recover the drive train, which will be fun with a half ton...

XM1027 - CUCV Crew Cab Build

Okay, uploaded my pix to Photobucket and linked them. Let me know if you can't see them and I'll talk to the admin... I also hit the light rust spots with rust converter, which I'll paint tomorrow. Top of passenger fender before: After: Roof before: After: And this is the awesome...

XM1027 - CUCV Crew Cab Build

They were there last night... Guess the system didn't like the size. I'll push them up to Photobucket and re-link them.

XM1027 - CUCV Crew Cab Build

And finally, the first iota of anything happening - no more door decals :grd:

XM1027 - CUCV Crew Cab Build

Engine compartment: Alternate angle: Came with nice aftermarket aluminum radiator: Original jack (rest of accessories are in the side box): Leaking hydroboost brake master cylinder (will need to be rebuilt): And a bonus hidden bottle of brake fluid in the passenger fender...

XM1027 - CUCV Crew Cab Build

Interior is shot... Front row: Rear Row, with driver's seat support log: Better shot of the headliner - it's done...:

XM1027 - CUCV Crew Cab Build

Figured I'd post a few more pictures of "before". Had a moment on the way home from work while there was daylight - peeled off the old vinyl logo (took about an hour for both sides). Front: Passenger outside: plus the inside original bed where the tailgate is...

XM1027 - CUCV Crew Cab Build

Recovery went well - long day with lots of driving, much thanks to my friend Josh and his dog Austin for the ride. First stop was a visit to the guy that has the drive train. Cummins engine looks pretty good and runs great despite the roll-over the donor had (cab and bed took the brunt -...

XM1027 - CUCV Crew Cab Build

Recovery - picking up truck base tomorrow. Chassis is 1.5-ton dually (3+3 Camper edition), 454 V8, 3-speed auto, flatbed (but I get the original bed in the deal), has a few spots of minor rust from the initial survey, but it's fairly clean (so-cal). As I understand, it was used as a work...

XM1027 - CUCV Crew Cab Build

Starting new thread here after highjacking another thread. Plan in broad strokes: Take civilian 1985 Chevy Crew Cab Dually, and "militarize" it. :tank: Timeline: 9-months or less, need extra seats for growing family - will be a daily driver. Major work to be done: Engine swap - Cummins 5.9L...

    CUCV Crew Cab?

Gotcha - just going off the Wikipedia list, looks like that was a semi-trailer comm-shelter. Might be what they are doing, but doesn't feel "right" - know what I mean? I think I well and thoroughly highjacked this thread (sorry...) Will now spawn off a new build thread. -T

    CUCV Crew Cab?

I like the X idea, my issue with M1028 is I'll end up with a mishmash truck: crew-cab (currently non-existant as an "M" truck, but they had a bunch...), Dana 70 dually (M1028A3), PTO (non M1028 base-model, but available on A1 and A2 revision supposedly, and not in the A3), A/C (M1010), and a...

    CUCV Crew Cab?

I was just getting ready to kick off my own build thread (similar specs). What should we call it? I was thinking of grabbing the M1027 slot since popacom took the M1032e1 (M1032 I thought was a Patriot missile trailer...).
