He is my situation. Bought a gl truck back in August. Determined that alternator was bad ( almost burned up). Replaced it. Turns out that its charging at around 26.7 volts. Today I noticed a burning plastic type of smell and touched the side of alternator and its screeching hot. Does not look...
Thought I would mention one of my easier fixes on my 5 ton. If you have one and your washer fluid does not squirt fluid onto windshield pop the hood and switch the rubber hoses around on the washer fluid tank. I think when mine went it for an "overhaul" they mixed up the hoses.
thought i would ask and see how easy or difficult it is to install a block heater on the 8.3 litre cummins. putting one on my 5.9 was easy as unscrewing a cap and plugging in a cord and done. any feedback would be appreciated. thanks.

CTIS colored wires
Ok, I admit, stupidity struck, but I unhooked my ctis wires from the indicator light in dash. Now I have no idea how to match them back up. I see wires on light have 1,2,3,4 but the other ends are just color coded. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.
