I found the stamp 241 on the passenger side front of the frame. The "1" is obscured but readable. I used marking paint to photograph it. The "Patent Plate" was heavily covered with paint. The number MD 26241 is highlighted in red. The photo does not show the faint but visible lines in the...
I want to thank you all for helping me get the MEP-803A up to speed. We were without power for about 17 hours, service was restored at 1700hrs today. I hooked up the genset and we had continuous power. It was stable and because we have Propane appliances and heating, it sipped the diesel. The...
The rear bumper had a longer bumper with clevis on each end. The underside to include the frame and hood were undercoated. The transmission had a fitting for a tube. There are many drilled holes in the rear fenders. The dash had an hour meter and a fording pull. The only data on a plate was a...
I bought a badly rusted M38A1 (MD 26241, Rebuilt in1962 at the MCSC, Albany, GA) for parts. It has many small parts and 2 fenders that I need. It came with a Koenig Model 51 and the shafts. I have a 1954 USMC Jeep that I am working on. It is good to have found such a source. I have not decided...
Thank for moving it. I do not always get these things right. I tested with a pressure unit I own that has an analog certified gauge. I have 3 diesel tractors, one recently in-frame overhauled. My friend (career tractor mechanic) has a professional unit. I will use his unit to confirm the...
Well, I checked the fuel injectors. 2800, 3100 3300, 2900. I read the TM. The minimum should be 3480 on an old injector. The unit runs good and recently powered the house when an outage happened. I need some schooling on injectors. My research has not found much, so far.
Well, the gen set needs a couple of new Lifters. Two are noisy and as I looked at them noted that I saw the top surface was pitted. Moved the 803 to the shop to remove and replace them. Now getting ready to order parts. Any advice appreciated!
Hi! Some time has passed with other projects (Plumbing Challenge, trees down, etc.). Today I added the shims and all the cyls sound the same. Thank you for the info and insight!! Merry Christmas!!
Mad me smile!! I really enjoy those moments that take thinking out of the box. Old mechanics have taught me some of their "out of the box" solutions. I will do that and let you know the results. Thank you very Much!!
I listened to the motor yesterday. Using a hose, on the starter side of the motor, I put my ear to the sound of the head. # 1 and #2 were quiet. # 3 and #4 have a distinct compression knock. I am thinking that I need to increase the shim pack. But, before I do that, I wanted to run this by you...
I found the coupler parts early on. I cannot recall ever seeing the rods. I am putting the 1 piece G/R in near my shop. I need it when working on my smaller gensets. I will place the 2 pieces in the storage in the frame.
The following are pictures after I put the panels back on the GenSet. I modified one panel to ease maintenance of auxiliary fuel components. The piano hinge is aluminum as are the rivets. 2 bolts and 3 screws and I have access. As with any modification, after reflecting on the finished product I...
