    Oil Sending Unit

I managed to get some time to wrench on this project and came armed with a new tool from Snap On that allows you to remove the oil psi sending unit from above without pulling the dizzy. They made the tolerances a little too strict for my taste so the wrench fits real snug over the hex nut of...

    Oil Sending Unit

Like many, my factory gauges have been nothing, but trouble. I finally gave up soldering traces on a bad circuit board and located a really clean doner gauge assembly. All was well at first, but all the gauges (minus the fuel and ammeter) start increasing after 5 minutes until they max out. I...

Anybody have any recomendation on shipping an HMMWV Ambulance From Yermo to WA state

Airyde.com I just used them a couple of weeks ago to pick up and deliver my M880. Lots of snakes and vampires in the shipping business, these guys were good to work with.

    Cooling System Mystery

The only bubbling I got came from squeezing the bulb. It was stable otherwise. The tester I borrowed has dual chambers to avoid a false reading (so they claim). The mechanic I borrowed it from said that it was great for gas engines, but he had never seen a positive result on diesel engines...

    Cooling System Mystery

Well, I may have some good news on this front. I drilled a 1/16 hole in the thermostat to help vent pressure and to allow me to use the combustion gas tester without the full flow of a open thermostat (in theory anyway). I then filled the block up to the t-stat housing and installed the...

    Cooling System Mystery

Received a Murray 3479 t-stat, which shows the correct application, but it feels really cheap. Anyone running these or should I look elsewhere?

    Cooling System Mystery

Well, on my way to pick up that thermostat. The plan is going to be to drill a pilot hole in the t-stat this time around. I used to run Robert Shaw brand t-stats on my Jeeps and they came with pilot holes to prevent any steam pockets from forming. There remains a chance that my problem is...

    Cooling System Mystery

It isn't a bad option, we have a good supplier of used motors in this area. I was given the wrong t-stat from the parts store so I am stuck waiting for the correct one to arrive tomorrow. I asked for a 195 for a '77 Dodge W200....they gave me a 180 degree out of 6 cylinder Dart. Parts stores...

    Cooling System Mystery

That is what got me to buy it in the first place, I have never seen one without rust, I can't say that I am not disappointed though. I really entered into this with a budget in mind and rebuilding the motor right out of the blocks wasn't in the planning.

    Cooling System Mystery

Well, that was fun. I haven't turn wrenches that much since I sold my Jeep Scrambler 12 years ago. I thought I wanted to get back into working on old rigs, but right now I am starting to wonder. First, the stupid radiator drain didn't open...why are they always junk? So, I had to pull the...

    Cooling System Mystery

Not a bad idea, but it might be inconclusive. There may not be any leak until the heads / intake heats up and expands. If I wait for that to happen at the housing

    Cooling System Mystery

I spoke with a trusted mechanic on my mail route and described the situation. His response was that if this was a Chevy, he would suspect a cracked head immediately. Still thinks likely a cracked head, but also admitted that there was a slight chance it could be traced to the water pump not...

    Cooling System Mystery

I guess I should include a picture of the project...previous owner might have been a member for all I know.

    Cooling System Mystery

IF the water pump doesn't tell me anything, it is going to the shop. They have a better ability to pull core plugs and clean it out than I can...they can also do the leak down test. I just hope it doesn't come to that because I have never had an engine get new heads without losing the bottom...

    Cooling System Mystery

All good suggestions...thanks. My first thought has been head gasket or cracked head from day one, but short of a gas sniffer or leakdown tester, I just don't know. I didn't see any signs of coolant on the plugs, none in the oil, no mixing in the coolant, and this truck doesn't smoke at...

    Cooling System Mystery

It is possible, can't rule it out. I am replacing pump and t-stat tomorrow to see if it is a matter of coolant staying in the block too long. Maybe by the time the t-stat opens it is really too little too late the whole thing over-heats / boils? My gauge cluster stopped working (voltage...

    Cooling System Mystery

I purchased a '77 Dodge M882 (Comm truck) last week because I miss my old '74 Dodge W200 that I sold off years ago. Truck has great potential with almost no rust, but I have spent the last 3 days trying to get it road-ready and have run into a cooling system issue that doesn't even seem...
