www.ouversonengineering.com makes really nice disc brake kits too. Randy also makes selectable front locking hubs for 2.5 ton Rockwells. He is a machinist who designs and manufactures almost all the parts himself.
Hopefully I can find another 5ton trans and do it right, there are not alot of good used M52 parts locally.
I sold the '41 Chevy to a guy north af Seattle somewhere. He was an old guy that was into straight 6 performance parts and engines. That is all I remember. Did he fix it up?
If I keep this truck and fix it up, one of the rear axles will be removed and the rear suspension changed. It will never haul more then 6000lbs. A transmission out of a 2.5 ton will do if it will work, and they are easier to find around here.
The transmission on this truck is broke in half. Will a Spicer 3053A out of a M35A2 fit in a M52? I know the yokes have a different flange pattern. Will the cab off a M35A2 ton fit on this also?
Here is the backside of a 5-ton hydraulic bearing hub next to an air brake hub. Recovry4x4 is correct, you will need to replace the spindle studs with bolts so the wheel studs don't rub. You would also need to add custom disc brakes.
5-ton Hydraulic brake bearing hubs are drilled for drive flanges on the inside like 2.5 ton hubs, they can be flipped. Air brake hubs are cast so they cannot be. I sold two front axles assemblys to a guy and he flipped the hubs, but is using custom pinion disc brakes, monster truck style.
It is a 1941 Chevy, 41" tires. I bought it about 10 years ago for $2000. It was sitting in a field, I stopped and asked the guy if he would sell it and he said yes, only because he just got married and needed money for his honeymoon trip. I cleaned it up, drove it around town, took it to a...
My friend bought the other truck just for the front axle. We build trail/offroad 4x4s. He is building a small monstertruck type vehicle. The rest of the 2 1/2ton truck is being parted/scrapped. If this 5-ton runs good, it will probably end up as a tow vehicle for my Chevy. I go to mudbog/off...
Thanks for the replies!
AaronW, the guy said there were a couple other people looking at it. Why didn't you pick it up? It is pretty ugly and my girlfriend didn't want me to buy it.
So is the M-54 an older version of a M-818? The dash plate read 196(?)
(edit for new people like me, good thread here: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/5-ton-larger/28628-m54-vs-m818.html )
This one is pretty neat:
Are you thinking M54 because of the cargo bed? The truck has a semi-truck "hitch" with a 2 1/2 ton or similar cargo bed sitting over it.
(Edit: I just found the FAQ thread. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showwiki.php?title=wiki:5+Ton )
Hi, I am new to this site and 5-ton trucks. I just bought one today that has been sitting for two years. The battery is missing but the guy I bought it from says it should start right up and drive away. I have been searching this site for info but still have a couple questions.
Is this an M818...
