I think you are correct. I been begging for it, but no luck locally. So we took a test run this evening and it ran great for 3 or 4 miles. Then it started to lose power. Not a lot, but certainly noticable. We did have an experienced mechanic suggest we change the coil. So when we got back...
I think I understand what you're saying. It's jsu that I am reluctant to take the carb apart as I really do not understand how a carb works, and other than crud and dirt, or something obvious, I would not really know what to look for?
Thanks
I also discovered last evening that the valve on the crankcase ventilation system actually has no internals. Meaning it is open all the time? Even though it is a very small hole, isn't that a vacuum leak?
Thing is, for 20 years or so since we been running the truck just fine, it has always...
I am starting new thread because the other is just too long and involved. Basically as a review, the truck idles well but has no power on the road. So this evening we did vacuum test. Manual says it should be 17 to 20". After some adjusting of the carb idle jets and a little turning of the...
Mulaney,
Thanks for that suggestion. I did try that a week or so agao with no difference detected. BUT, what we had was called "starting fluid" it did not say either. I told my son to pick it up on his way home from work and that is what he bought.
Is there a difference? It smells like...
We could not get to check the compression or vacuum today. There was a "mechanic" (?) my son had coming over this afternoon, but he backed out. And I had other things I decided needed done.
But concerning vacuum let me ask this? There is a line from the intake manifold to the valve cover...
Sir, I appreciate your comments. I am aware of what makes an old gasser run. But this is what makes this all so perplexing. I have gone thru that trouble shooting part of the manual, not completely, but a lot of it. What gets me is it seems fixed, then does it again? I am about to try the...
checked each plug for spark and they all have spark. We cannot continue to keep tearing things apart, seeming to find and fix the problem, then it starts all over again. There has to be something causing this.
It has been suggested we buy a rebuilt carb? But I am reluctant to cough up The...
IT HAS HAPPENED AGAIN!!??
Took the truck to a veterans event last afternoon, and the trouble started again!
Went to town ok. Started to come home and again NO POWER!
I am going to check plugs this afyernoon, it is acting exactly the same as before I found the bad NEW plug. I hope it is the...
Thanks to all that have tried to help. Believe me, we were very frustrated with this trouble and our inability to find the cause. However I think we have it fixed.
We tried the gov test as we were told. No diff.
I even took the valve cover off and looked for a bad rocker, or something...
Thanks for your help with this. I am going to go try this now. Since I am disconnecting those lines at the carb, won't it suck air into the system and effect it's operation. That is what I was meaning may need capped?
This truck has ran fine just the way it is for years. I do not understand...
Will disconnecting the two lines effect the spark advance?
And, when I dissconnect the two lines do I need to cap them at the carb?
I am not understanding this system at all?
We have a standard transmission in this truck, not the original one. Do I even need a governor??
OK, we tried the .018 point gap. Hard start and would not pull out of his barn.
I checked the fuel line where it was clogged before, wide open and again, full flow to the carb.
Disconnected exhaust pipe ahead of the muffler. No difference.
Just no power. Won't run past 40-45?? And some...
so my son was talking with Mephis Eq ordering a couple new condensers. He was discussing this power proble, They told him to set the points at .016 to .018? The manual says .022.
I have had a few guys tell me .022 is too wide, but thats what the manual says??
Have plenty of fuel to the carb. Pump filled a pint glass jar in 20 or 30 seconds. I was looking for water in the gas. Clean as a whistle.
However, I have been told that if the filter appears full, then it is clogged? Have you heard that?
It is in a vertical position and appears about full...
OK, here is the latest,
My Son installed a new condenser this morning and it started right up. Regarding this issue, the previous NEW resistor lasted about ONE WEEK. Maybe we just got a bad one/ Or might there be something causing these to go bad?
Next, as before, NO POWER. On level will...
Thanks for the quick responses
To Barman: I been trying to understand how all that works inside that enclosed distributor. After a night of think about it, I think that big spark jumping from the neg pole on the coil to the main oriface at the coil top, is probably actually jumping in the...
You guys are probably tired of me asking on here? I know I am very tired.
So this truck has ran fine since I discovered that clogged gas line. And everything should be all tuned up because we replaced EVERYTHING except the ceramic dist cap which looks fine.
Spent the last couple days going...
