Seems like this is turning into a build thread.

Nice!!....and congrats on your new home! I'd hafta say that your M1009 fits that spot perfectly.

which battery caused the other to die?

If I'm not mistaken, batteries will not equalize (or draw from each other) when wired in series (double the voltage), such an in our CUCV's. If batteries are wired in parallel (double the amps), then yes, they can equalize, where the weaker one will pull from the stronger one. I'd say more...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

So far, so good. I really haven't had a chance to drive it and put some miles on it just yet, but I have run the engine and it seems to be working just fine...and not one hint of belt squeal. Now they do stick out of the crank, water and PS pulleys just a slight bit, as they don't fit flush...

    Starter Is grinding

No problem! Hopefully this gets M1008it pointed in the right direction.

    Starter Is grinding

The video is in the zip file attachment from the first post.

    Starter Is grinding

Just some observations after watching the video you posted... I noticed metal shavings flying when you engaged the starter. That can't be good. That would lead me to believe that either the pinion (bendix), flywheel teeth, or both are damaged. I would drop the starter and examine the teeth...

No problem! Glad to help a fellow CUCV'er out. That dually looks awesome by the way....I'm jealous. Nice, clean, and straight!!

Well, I'll be....I never noctied the "1" missing from the plate number!! Thanks for the info! Yes...you definitely need to restore that one. I always liked the single-cab dually's. Those are hard to come by nowadays.

Here's mine....looks like ours weren't too far apart on the assembly line. Mine was 8/84 and yours in 9/84.

Curious...do you have a way to decode the registration numbers? It would seem that you are correct. There is a US AIR FORCE stencil painted underneath the hood.

M813c....here you go. I held up a tape measure to give it some scale. They placed this in the front bumper license plate spot, and again on the upper-left corner of the tailgate. I wondered if I should cover them up, but so far I haven't had any issues from the local or state PD. U S ARMY =...

It says "OFFICIAL USE ONLY" on the bottom. If you need me to, I can take better picture and post it if you're looking to replicate one.

I thought it was weird as well. I thought someone painted it that way. But once I saw it in person, I realized that it was CARC paint with all of the markings still on the truck. I bought it in April 2024....but I believe I am the second civilian owner. Strangely enough after I bought it, I...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Beats me. How you see it is how it was auctioned off....except for the lift and wheels, of course. It has DOL-IMD and CL IX CR-4 bumper markings and JOINT BASE LEWIS-MC CHORD on the bedsides. It also has a painted-on U.S. Army license plate on the front bumper, and on the tailgate. A while...

Nice job! Me neither....I like them either green or camo. Mine's a bit of an odd-ball. It got the 3-tone treatment. Guess some fellas were bored at JBLM one day...I dunno.

    How to refurbish door cards?

Here's a YouTube video that you could probably pick up some pointers from. Like everyone else said, the better the prep...the better the results.

Here's what I was talking about... My original "outty" style fans and bushings looked like this: The new pulleys I ordered from DJ's will not work with this style of fan. You will need the "inny" style fans and short bushings shown in my previous post.

Sure do. I got them from DJ's Tractor Parts. The part number is AB-1426D. Here's a link: https://stores.djstractorparts.com/1-2-alternator-pulley-ab-1426d/?searchid=1398853 They are nice, solid pulleys. Not like the stamped-steel originals...and they are the same diameter...3-1/16". While...

They are NAPA NightVisions. They are a little pricey at $8.39/ea....but i think they were worth it. Here's a link and pic of what to look for: https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/LMPBP194NVL I only used them for the dash lighting....all of the idiot lights I left as incandescent bulbs. I...

    Gen1 trouble

I've been pulling up wiring diagrams and reviewing pics of cluster circuit boards this whole time.... ...but I'm definitely stumped now. Something just isn't adding up.
