To all thanks for the comments and input. I got the unit put back together, removed the pieces of coil that were left and fired it up. Runs like a champ I did a thermal scan of the cylinders and exhaust ports to make sure everything was running at the same temperature everything seems to be...
Picture is posted, but what you say makes perfect sense. I got to my shop just a few mins ago and looked at a MEP-002A and it has the tabs but not the coiled wire. Thank you now that you say that I have seen that comment in posts that I have been reading.
I have a MEP-003A that seems everything works on it other than the Volt meter. I am assuming this is a amp meter to show the voltage. That is based on the shunt resistor across the rear terminals. That small coil is burnt is half and I get no reading on the meter. Is there such a thing as a...
They are new batteries and the issues was the loose alternator belt. It just strikes me odd that something meant to be for military use can be so picky. I would think that if the batteries would turn it over at all it would try to start. I would hate to think I left the panel lights on a day or...
I have a MEP-804A I have been working on. I got all the bugs worked out but maybe one. This does not make any sense to me so hopefully someone has some insight.
This generator purrs like a kitten, runs great. It starts easy and has low hours, but on two different occasions it would not start...
Does anyone know the battery size that best fits the MEP-003A? I have one I bought used and it needs new batteries. The ones on in it are aftermarket and clearly not the same size as the original. If I an gonna buy 2 new ones I want the best fit.
I have a MEP-804A that I recently posted about having issues with the VR. I replaced the regulator and all seemed fine. Now I have developed another issue. The machine will sit and purr like a kitten most of the time. I started it the other night and let it run for 3 hours and it ran perfect the...
I posted the results of the test. It showed as I expected the regulator is bad. I removed the TRC VR from my donor machine and that fixed the issue. Everything seems to be working as it should now. I have not tested it with a load yet but working on it.
I do have one more question is it common...
Where would I find the new schematics? The ones I have are downloaded from here. File names 15KW TQG Schematics and 15KW TQG Colored Schematics. Both only reference 1 fuse.
I performed the tests in 4.1.2 for the TRC VR. I did find one very rookie mistake. I had failed to check the fuse next to the regulator, it was blown, it is a KLK 3A fuse. I assume that it is F1 since that is the only one I saw in a quick glance of the schematics. After replacing the fuse I...
Ok thank you. I had found that procedure 4.1.2 and 4.1.3 for the 2 different regulators. For the 4.1.2 it calls out Regulator PIN 19870 and for 4.1.3 it calls out Regulator 19890-001. I know you told me to use the 4.1.2 and gave me a part number for the regulator. How would I have determined...
Ok this is the first time since I posted that I have been able to get back to the post. I found all the manuals the night I made the post thanks for the link. I am having trouble finding the -24TM ACVR test procedure that you called out. I have looked thru all of the manuals I downloaded but...
Background
This is a MEP-804A that I don't know much history about. We recently purchased it as a running machine with the AC interrupter bypassed. It started and ran fine and the output frequency and voltage were correct and adjustable. It was connected for low voltage. I replaced the AC...
