Back in November I used my totally stock M1008 to pull a friend's broken 3/4 ton diesel extended cab longbed Chevy- loaded with gear- out of a wilderness area where we'd been hunting. In 6" of mud.

I like the NV4500 as a transmission- BUT-
The gear splits are miserable for a diesel. I spend a fair amount of time driving a very well-built 6.5 Turbo with an NV4500 behind it. Low is useless most of the time, and you have to rev the snot out of the thing in 1-3 to not lug it when you shift...
