    Need help with speaker selection...

I just purchased a similar amp for about $12 and now just need to get some speakers. Have you hooked yours up yet? How does it sound?

    Dash pad Removal

OUCH! I have avoided looking at the dealer so far. i have found a few other less expensive options but i am sure they have their issues. I suppose i could always sell that kidney.

    Starter / Starter Relay

thanks for the help. i have ordered the bracket. now back to the relay. i scrounged up a (new) starter solenoid from a bronco. it appears similar in appearance to the SME relay that doghead used but it is different. there are two small posts and two large posts like dogheads but the...

    Starter / Starter Relay

ok i am an idiot. the old starter did have a small bolt hole in it but it did not match up to the hole in the starter bracket. further research led me to understand that my reduction drive starter requires a different bracket. the person who replaced the starter the last time either didnt...

    Starter / Starter Relay

Thanks Warthog! I am confused about the bracket. the starter i removed did not have a place to attach it to the bracket so the previous mechanic zip-tied it up and out of the way. Have you seen starters for these trucks with no means for attatching the bracket to the back?

    Starter / Starter Relay

Well, it happened. i was away from home without tools when i started the truck and heard what sounded like the starter still cranking. I turned off the ignition and it was still running! With no one around to borrow tools from and not knowing about the starter relay under the dash, i raced home...

This happened to me yesterday and i was unable to kill the circuit before starter fried. would i need to replace the entire starter or just the solenoid?

    CUCV 24v. resistor ouhhhh.....

Keith_J, I sent you a PM regarding fuse size for the protection of the GP system with resistor bypass. Input from others would also be appreciated but i didn't want to steal this thread.

    glow plugs (yes, again)

After replacing a bad lot of glowplugs and realizing that i was missing the resistors, i went back to the wiring schematics and started tracing wires. i found that there was a circuit breaker (not a fuse) installed on the firewall and that it was in failure. it would run the glow plugs for...

    glow plugs (yes, again)

After searching for the resistor, i realized tonight that my M1028 has already had the resistor bypass. it is non existent.... gone. I will now have to go through the wiring diagrams to determine whether this was done correctly. i have just replaced the 070 plugs with the 60g plugs, now i...

    glow plugs (yes, again)

Thanks for the info. I got wildly different ohm readings on the plugs i tested so i suppose they are all in a different stage of failure. 3 of them were shot completely. I just installed AC 60G plugs and I thought i read somewhere that you should bypass the resistor when installing them in a...

    glow plugs (yes, again)

there is obviously nothing in the TMs about test lights but you can't miss the innumerable posts which indicate that the way to test a GP is with a test light. I am simply making the point that it may not be the most accurate way to troubleshoot your GP system. "cold". Thanks! Thanks.

    glow plugs (yes, again)

before i begin, i will say that i have read MANY threads and the glow plug testing information in the TMs. I tested one of the plugs with an ohm meter (i am an electrician and know exactly how to use one) and got a reading that was well outside of the acceptable limits. just to double check...

    how cold is too cold?

OK. I tested the GP System last night and i have come to the conclusion that the relay and the glow plugs are all shot. The ohm readings were not correct on the plugs and i was seeing 12 volts at the glow plugs even with key in OFF position. I could not test the switch because the engine...

    how cold is too cold?

The cranking was slow this morning so i didn't even bother. i am going to start with the electrical system tonight and move on to fuel and then glow plugs. I finally found and downloaded the TMs so this will be a big help.

    Small update on my truck.

Ahh.. I should have know that. Were you having trouble with starts and slow cranking problems?

    Small update on my truck.

I am having similar cold starting trouble and plan on doing some troubleshooting tonight. Please forgive my ignorance but what is the "IP"?

    how cold is too cold?

That makes me think i definitely have some sort of problem. Should you be able to hear the relay for the GPs? My light comes on for about 10-15 seconds but when it goes off, i don't hear anything click.

    how cold is too cold?

Hadn't even considered that. Thanks for your input. I am trying to locate and download the repair manual to try to trouble shoot this problem. This morning it was 12 degrees and she barely wanted to turn over. I didnt spend any time messing with it because i needed to get to work but i...
