I would like to 2nd the idea of starting on diesel, then switch over to your alternative fuel once it is warmed up.
In the Mercedes turbo-diesel world, I always shot for fuel temps of at least 150F when running WVO. I attained this by running a hose-in-house fuel line from the trunk (where the...
Looking at that schematic, you might be able to tie the two similar functions together with diodes (if it can deal with the V-drop).
that way you could use a DPDT
Just a thought!
Duh...sorry I wasn't thinking :-)
Does this one look correct?
6GG5B-73 Carling Technologies Toggle Switches
Momentary, on, off.
Not sure if double pole or not...would want to check inside genny to see what it is.
I might have to ride my motorcycle down there and have a look-see.
My MEP-006A is in Newberg, as well as my 404.1 German NATO Radiobox Unimog
Both a little blocked in at the moment :-)
Switch shouldn't be anything amazing. You need a on-off-on switch with momentary one direction, and not in the other. Probably DPDT (double pole, double throw).
If you happen to come across a generator for parts, I need an exciter winding in-case the repair of mine does not end successfully...

You'd want to be careful about your loads and how they are configured relative to the generator. Transformers included as well.
The 4 output connections are on the left side (as viewing from the control panel end). The door...
Have you confirmed the voltage card is in the right position? One sets the generator for 120/240V and the other for higher voltage.
My MEP006 would output 477 phase-to-phase but anything higher would kick off the over-volt limit and shutdown the gen-set.
I would connect a multi-meter across...
Sorry should'a mentioned dealing with bigger than the average generator :-)
I have a meter already that I might throw in just for checking each phase for good match at heavy load.
I scored a MEP-006 and after hearing horror stories, my dad that was working very close by the base went and photoed/inspected the three I was interested in. Out of them, only one looked 'complete' although a suspect 5hrs total run time had me worried. It also had the red X marks all over it...
Did it have oil in it while you were running it on ether?
I suppose if the bore was VERY tight, running on heavy ether shots could have seized the piston in the bore (scrubbing the cylinder walls).
Sorry to hear that! Pop the head off the engine?
Another thing to note
Check your liquids for mixing. Those rotary pumps love to dump fuel into the lubricating oil...coolant can mix with oil...Vice Versa.
We have probably competed for a gen set out of Ft. Lewis. I snagged the complete runner ~1.5 yr ago...picked it up late summer of 2010...
Hey all,
I acquired a complete MEP-006 60kW gen-set from Ft Lewis about 1-2 years ago. It had about 7hrs on a fresh rebuild when I received it. Now it's up in the 400-500hr range and I have a problem.
The set was powering a large shop (crane/heaters/air compressors/welders/etc.) and it...
Affirmative, 24V system here.
Does the actuator easily clear the day-tank directly above? Seemed like it was a little tight there but it might just squeeze in?
I will jingle that place and see what sort of prices they have. For the relay circuitry, you are just doing some stuff so that the...
