Even if you don't have to have a CDL, you have to have an air brake endorsement to run a vehicle with air brakes. I have a non-CDL but had to get an air brake endorsement to legally drive my MV - This poster showed us why.
I have an idea for a project, and was thinking of using a bolster trailer for it. I am a farmer and want to use a trailer to haul around my wide crop sprayer. I'd have to build a cradle for the bolster trailer, but If the outside width of the trailer is more than 96 inches my sprayer wouldn't...
I hate the Tachograph. There's too much going on, and it's always busted. If one part of it is screwed up, it messes up all the rest of it. The power drain on it causes the batteries on MVs you buy to be completely ruined 99% of the time. We are always having trouble with our tachographs...
Got it. Rules are rules. It's okay to break the rules if you tell a nice story first. It's okay to ask for help finding parts for your MV, but only if your story is interesting enough. If your story sucks, then the mods come on and flame you. If your story is good, the mods contribute and...
I have a class A non CDL in Illinois with air brake endorsement. It was just issued by the DMV a year and a half ago. I had to take the same test as a CDL driver, but don't have to do the expensive drug testing stuff.
I spent a good portion of my day in a 915 and I would have been in **** without a working heater motor. If it's as cold where you are as it is where I am I hope they have fast shipping and I don't blame you a bit for coming here and asking for help finding one. I don't know how asking for help...
I thought it would be more fun to just be helpful rather than mean. Here's some helpful information for you.

The transmissions work good hauling big loads out of soft fields. The 55MPH top speed would get annoying if you were trying to run it on the interstate a lot, but not worrying about shifting is great. A really big load doesn't bother the transmission at all, I assume the army used them a lot...
Ah, actually that was my wife. She loves to climb the leg and take pictures. She's always looking for an excuse to climb it, and the view is great from up there, especially when the crops are growing.
Pic #4 was taken from the top of our 104' grain leg (elevator,) heh, not our US Army surplus farm Helicopter. One of the semis which we aptly named MONG, came out of Jeff City like yours did, Andy.
I've been meaning to share my farming photos with the steel soldiers community, and the post about using 915s commercially got me to get around to it. Here are some pictures of us farming with our 915A1s. We are really happy with them for the short hauls, we haul out of the fields to our...
I've been Hauling grain in my M915A1, and my back is sore. So, I bought a used air ride seat from the junkyard. Does anyone know if the air going into the seat needs to be regulated, or can I just tie into an air line and give 120psi to the seat? I don't want to blow it up, it cost me $150...
If you go fact-finding about wet kits for the 915A1, share what you find out with the forum. I may want to do that someday. I wonder if a guy could get a pto from someone who is scrapping a 916/920 and use that as a wet kit?
We are farmers, and had an 817. It was so darn heavy that we had to put a $810 plate on it to legally haul the same amount as our civilian dumps that had $450 plates. The bed is small enough that it wouldn't really haul any more than a civilian truck without modification. We don't go into...
I hauled some loads with my M915A1 today. 60 miles round trip, 82,600 lbs loaded 27,700 empty on 2 lane interstate through 3 small towns and achieved 5.36 mpg. I was very accurate with the measurements because I wanted some good data to make freight decisions with. I hope this is useful...
There is some mis information at the top of this thread. A M915 is almost a standard civilian tractor. We use ours with all civilian trailers. In fact, the only semis we use on our grain farm are M915A1s, and we pull all sorts of civilian trailers with them.
I bought 2 trailers that are stacked at Great Lakes. The guy I'm going to have haul them would prefer to load them on his own trailer, but with the bulkhead the trailers are way too tall. If the bulkhead removes in one piece, i'm sure it would be way too heavy to remove, but If it comes off in...
