    New exhaust on my M1009

I figured I’d give a little update on the old M1009. I’ve been driving this truck for around 7 years with the turbo and have logged a little over 40,000 miles on it. I haven’t had any trouble with it. Several years ago I painted it the correct woodland camo and I’ve just been enjoying it and...

    My M1009 Restoration Thread

Finally paint! Well, it took way longer than I hoped, but its finally got fresh camo. I stayed as close to the original NATO pattern as possible, but it isn't perfect. It looks much better though, and I'm happy with it.

How did you run your single exhaust?

A bigger turbo on an engine that can't handle more than 12 psi is pretty much pointless. The GM-X series turbos work well for what are designed to do, but the hard 90 in the exhaust housing is very restrictive. My exhaust was cheap mod that improved low end spool tremendously. It would't work in...

    Bought a M880!

Made a little more progress. I still have to do the driver's door, bedside, and tailgate, I'm just pecking at a hour after work when I can.

How did you run your single exhaust?

IMO, the only way to truly utilize a 4" or bigger system on a 6.5 turbo is to replace the housing of the turbo. I built a custom rear housing out a peice of 4" mandrel bent pipe and made a 1/2" thick flange at work. It required running outside of the frame rail and considerable clearancing of...

How did you run your single exhaust?

You're going to have to modify the down pipe on a 6.5 setup anyway to fit your truck, but the inside of the turbo exhaust housing is only a little over 2.5", so going a whole lot bigger afer the downpipe on a 6.5 turbo only helps very slightly. In others words, going to a 3" or 4" system using...

    Bought a M880!

A little sneak peek at the progress on the M880. I ran out of paint, but I'm happy with progress so far. I'll post more pics when I get it finished.

    6.2L Dream Build

I agree - the GM dealers around have no clue about how to work on anything that you plug a scanner into. The last time I went to the Chevrolet place for parts for my old '84 K10, the service manager (a 30 something year old genius) commenced to tell me how I ought to be looking into getting...

Getting more and more interested in adding turbo to 1008

When I say it very common for this to happen, I mean more often than not. Rarely ever will you ever see a totally clean turbo on a 6.5 if it has some miles on it...

Getting more and more interested in adding turbo to 1008

Probably not. It is very common for the CDR valve to go bad and cause it pull oil in through the front of the turbo and seap out from under the intake boot. I have also seen a leaks at the oil supply fitting, but that the oil on that turbo seems to have came from the front and ran down under it...

    Question about m880 carb tag

I recently replaced the carb on my M880 with one off a non emissons '69 Dart 318, and it totally woke the truck. The earlier carb appears to be a bigger cfm 2 bbl, and the M880 really likes it. My original carb has been rebuilt, tinkered with, and adjusted numerous times, but we could never get...

    6.2L Dream Build

6.5 heads will wake up a stock N/A 6.2 because of the bigger precup ports, but you can hurt the engine when revving it high or working it really hard because without the boost of the turbo, the EGT's can go through the roof if it getting too much fuel. Its actually easier to melt down a N/A 6.2...

    6.2L Dream Build

ARP studs are better for sure, and best of all they are reuseable, but I have had a couple of turbo engines with new stock replacement bolts, and they hold up fine up, but they are "one use" bolts as well.

    6.2L Dream Build

As far as my dream build, I have just about everything for as close as I'll ever get to my dream build. I have a late model 6.5 Navistar enhanced block with the late model heads with diamond precups. I also have an open single plane intake from a early 90's N/A 6.5, and a 4911 6.5 turbo...

    6.2L Dream Build

Besides the slightly different injector angle, the biggest difference is the size of the ports in the precups. The 6.2 precups have small, round d-shaped ports and the 6.5 have wider, bigger o blong shaped ports. The diamond precups used in 6.5 turbo engines will make more power than 6.2...

    Engine Swap PROs/CONs?

The Banks set-up is a kit and is around $2100 new. http://performancetruckproducts.com/25021-banks-sidewinder-turbo-system-1982-91-gm-6-2l-sub-h-d-2wd?gclid=COrdn5Sf1bUCFQ6xnQodqgsAcA It is a bolt on deal, besides the air box (which you could run if you put civilian battery trays and...

    Engine Swap PROs/CONs?

Patracy is correct - you have to relocate the rear battery, and you cannot run 6-TL's (which most people don't do anyway). My boss is a Interstate battery dealer, and he can get them for me for less than $100 each. I love the look of them, and I left my interior light for 3 days once, and the...

    Engine Swap PROs/CONs?

It has been done. The guy below put a Holset on his car, and ended up getting it to run than a stock 90's LT1 car. Even in this video, he is only running about a 3 tenths slower than a stock 4th gen LT1 Camaro. The fuel mileage in a Camaro or Firebird with a n/a 6.2 would be rediculous...
