It has been a long time since I've updated this thread, and have recently gotten some 716/18 info worth posting. First, the total number of Austrian made TD's was 5215 The UK made Pinzes totaled out at 1210 to 1214 ( depending on which source you believe, one an ex ATL employee, the other...
My recommendation is to buy the newest 716/718 you can ( considering condition also). The original TDs were the P80, then the P90 and finally the P93 made in Austria. Model changes came with improvements. In Canada, you could import up to a 2005, but only 7 718's made in the UK were LHD...
This was my thread on building a War Pig several years ago. In those days, there were few FMTVs in private hands.

Very rare to see one that hasn't been gutted for a camper.
Fire trucks are also quite rare.
Total production of 710/712s was somewhere...
Mirrors like that are common to semi's and transit buses for seeing along side the vehicles

I might have known what you meant, but the uninformed wouldn’t.
The last 15 years I have been supplying laminated windshields for gray market Pinzgauers, Haflingers and Unimogs that did have tempered windshields and the owners had no idea of the danger.
Windshields are made from LAMINATED glass not tempered. Its been the law in the US since the 1930s. Tempered glass has been used in Europe up to the '70s and later, and many 3rd world countries, but you are putting an IED in front of your face. When broken, tempered glass shatters into a bunch...
I've been using fuses for 5 years now. And actually prefer a fuse. They are either good or blown. Circuit breakers can go bad like any other electrical component. It is possible for them to trip way below the rated amperes causing someone to think there is an electrical issue when there isn't...
Thank you! It doesn't seem like it has been over 5 years since I started the project, or over 4 since it's 1st show on Memorial Day 2013!
A gun truck build would seem more in line for M-35 or such.
I don't keep up with the forum, and since several of the LVAD M1081s and M1093s have...
The basic concept for use was the old Pinzgauer 710/12. These weren't intended for offroading (though they will swing either way). Feasibly, they cannot be swung back because they'll block the doors from opening ... easiest is to loosen the thumbscrews and lift assemblies out of dovetails. The...
The front mount is not flat. I cut the back piece and bent to follow the curve of the front of the truck and then welded the returns on. The post was an extension to allow the windshield to fold and have the swing arm at the correct height. Everything was plasma cut and welded together to get an...
Actually I'm in front the computer that has several 100s pics of the build and for reference.
I had slotted the front of the truck to insert 1/4" backing blocks for the dovetail base. the mirror base slides into the dovetail base and locked with a thumb bolt
The mg base was was my rendering as...
Again, it is part of the flexibility of the build. The basic design was pattern from War Pigs pictures, but to keep the truck 100% street legal, I moved the post to the side of the hinge so the windshield could be up or folded, once folded a post was inserted into it to give the proper height...
Thank you The LVAD trucks are the only way to go these type builds. The cabs do have some structural differences that are impractical to add to a full cab when cut. It's funny you should say the M1094 is too much truck, I'd gone through some physical issues that people said I could never build...
