    What a dead horse

I'm not familiar with the AUX fuel line. Just getting a little pressure on the system (however you can do it) should reveal the bad spots. The filler neck on my civi just bolts to the body with 3 screws. I'm not sure what the CUCV set up looks like but I'd bet they would swap. Somebody...

    What a dead horse

Dang it! Is it possible to swap the filler necks from a civi?

    What a dead horse

Once you have it running, how does it drive? Sounds like the problem is just hard starting. I haven't heard any complaints about it running poorly once you get it going. This makes me think that the injection pump may be fine. I do suspect an air problem though. Try this...Go to Autozone and...

24v to 12v Injection pump conversion

I don't know if you got this done already but I did mine this weekend. The 12v fss had an extra long tab on one side and would not fit in my 5209 pump. I just removed the fss from the covers, swapped the plates that I needed, and put it back together. No biggie. Attached is a diagram of the...

    Rebuild vs. long block

In my opinion if you are going to drop some coin on a new engine buy from a reputable dealer of real deal GEP engines. Many folks offer "new upgraded" engines but there are only a few that I would trust to actually deliver a real deal GEP. One is Kennedy Diesel, the other is WW Williams...

    Sad day for my M1008

    I suspect it's a broken crank.

    I was told I have a 6.5. How do I know?

If the sticker on the valve cover says GEP, you are certainly looking at a best of the breed 6.5. If it says GM, you will likely need to read the casting #s to determine casting date and displacement.

    CUCV IIs on the Market?

Someone take a look at ebay listing 200690781205 and tell me what that is.

    Running engine in shipping crate

Oil pressure gauge. If there is an oil filter on it, remove it and dissect it. Sparkly bits would indicate a tear down would be better than a ground hop. If no sparkly bits in the filter, I would look for oil pressure by spinning the oil pump clockwise with a drill and 5/16 bit. If you...

    Running engine in shipping crate

I did the sawzall mod on the crate. Looped the cooler lines. 24v jumper to the shutoff solenoid from 2 small batteries. I couldn't get jumper cables to send enough juice to the starter so just wired up 2 batteries with regular battery cable.

    my new engine

Not so fast professor. Could be a hole from the cylinder to the water jacket as mentioned above. Put it on a stand and dig in. Don't forget to bring the camera.

    my new engine

The block is the same. The heads have N/A precups. Piston squirts are disabled in all but 7 and 8. I have a N/A 6.2 in my 84 civi C10. I'm using my GEP block and heads, and transferring everything else from my 6.2. I'll use the ip from the military engine after swapping the 24v shut-off...

    my new engine

 I approve! As long as there isn't a hole in the block, you are good. I was happy with mine at 395 (468 after taxes and GL got their cut). Even with a hole in the block, you can get twice your money back if the heads are in good shape.

    my new engine

That is the sought after GEP block. You have an excellent base to work with but like he said...It wasn't pulled for no reason. There is an issue somewhere. Now you have to figure out what it is. I got one of these a few months ago. Got it home and could turn it with a breaker bar. Had oil...

    Have a 6.5 from GL

Picked it up from the machine shop on monday. Honed the cylinders and main line, installed new cam bearings and Scat crank. Cleaned up the pistons and reconditioned the connecting rods. It's back on the stand in my shop now and waiting for me start the re-assembly.

    Pisked up a 6.5 today

Funny you should ask! Just picked the block up from the machine shop yesterday. They honed the cylinders and the main line, installed new cam bearings, reconditioned the rods, installed the new Scat crank that I gave them along with the rear main seal. They fit the new rod bearings and...

    Have a 6.5 from GL

No worries! It's getting new cam bearings anyway but I was happy to see the cam and rollers in good shape. Cheers!

    Have a 6.5 from GL

Cam bearings and rollers actually look fine. On these engines I believe the lifters get oil first, then the cam, then the crank, then the rods. Something went wrong before it got to rods 5 through 8. I dunno. The block, cam, rods and pistons are going to the machine shop in the morning for...

    Have a 6.5 from GL

Thanks Steve. I expect I will be moving pretty slow on this but I will certainly keep you in mind. Lewis

10-4. I think you are right and I need to go deeper and do more assessment. I'll keep y'all updated as I progress. Thanks, Lewis
