Thanks, I guess I'll follow the TM to test GPs then test each wire from card controller. I printed out these pages for last 2 mechanics to follow and neither followed the step by step TM because they "knew how to trouble shoot J code engines". So now I'm back to square 1 doing it all myself...
Did I mention that the new Wallmans have about 3 hours of run time on them? Does this information change your opinion? I just find it hard to believe that anyone would get only 3 hours of run time off brand new glow plugs.
Greetings to everyone,
My wait light worked just fine the first day or two after all 8 glow plugs (Wellman 70) were replaced and a new GPR (ST85) was installed. Now the wait light stays on up to 1:30 before I turn the key off. I don't dare go longer for fear of swelling the glow plugs. When...
Thanks Ralbelt. I did not read down through the post far enough. Diode connects the black ground post and the 12v purple with white stripe post with the striped end of the diode on the purple striped wire side. I hope this is the only thing that went wrong when my AC40 failed.
That's exactly what I was looking for, but unfortunately me looking at that electrical schematic is like an elephant looking at a wristwatch. I've attached doghead's photo of his mod. Can you tell me which post each leg of the diode needs to be connected to based on the attached photo (i.e...
Can anyone tell me or preferably provide a photo or diagram on where to connect the two ends of the 3 amp barrel diode to the modified starter relay switch that doghead uses?
Thanks in advance,
Tracy
I went to my nearest NAPA to get the ST85 Glow Plug Relay that was recommended on this site. It was $57. The NAPA guy said "we have the ST85SB for $27". He said it was the same part, just a different manufacturer. Will the ST85SB do the same job as the ST85? Please advise.
Thanks in...
One option on this forum for the sticking starter relay is to use the 3 amp barrel diode from Radio Shack on the AC40 starter relay. Another option on this post is to use the doghead starter relay modification. Can you combine the two and use the 3 amp barrel diode with the doghead starter...
Thanks to everyone who offered advice on tire size for my M1009 with stock suspension. I decided to go with 32x10.50 15s. This size gave me nearly 3" over the stock Wrangler ATs that were on the M1009 when I won it on auction. As everyone stated on many other forums, these tires ran narrow...
Sometime my WAIT light comes on when I turn the key and sometimes it does not. The thing that is really bothering me is that sometimes AFTER I start the vehicle and it is idling (warming up) the wait light will flicker on and off and I can hear what sounds like a relay clicking in unison with...
GEN 1 Light dimly flickering intermittently
I just experienced this phenomenon the other night coming back from the first day of deer season. I had idled the truck a lot that day and did not notice the low glow/flicker during the day or while driving back at night from hunting. I only noticed...
Modulator Questions Revisited
I guess my post was not clear. When disconnected from the modulator, my metal vacuum line springs up about 5" (as if the original metal vacuum line was installed 5" short). In order to reconnect it, you must pull the metal vacuum line back down to the modulator...
The GM P/N for the modulator valve is 359917. Does anyone have a good replacement source for these that still allow the stock line nipple to fit into the modulator nipple?
AAP had a replacement, but the modulator nipple was not large enough for the metal vacuum tube nipple to fit. Connecting...
My mil OEM starter that I removed when I got my gremlin was not connected to a support bracket. I think I'm missing mine, but the OEM starter tuned out not to be the problem. I bought one of those 24v gear reduction starters off Ebay. If I were able to find the starter bracket, will these...
This sounds a lot like the problem I am having. I also think my problem is a short or ground along the "dreaded purple/white circuit". Hopefully, I can find my problem soon as you did. Can you post a photo of where you found your rub?
Gentlemen, this is all great troubleshooting that you just don't get in the manual. I have to go out of state this weekend, so I will not have the opportunity to try this until Labor Day weekend. I'm so excited about jumping at the relay that I just might do that tonight when I get home. At...
The CUCV problem is not what is frustrating me.
Yes I appreciate the help, but I can read a-20 and curcuit diagram. I am looking for what the -20 doesn't explain--what happens when you turn the ignition switch--how the electrical current flows and in what circuit order.
I have performed all...
1. My lights work. I state that in the topic line and I also stated that in my first post. The lights work. Service lights work. Black Out lights work. Did I mention that the lights work? When I turn the key--no sounds, no wait light.
2. Once of the first things I did back in the spring...
I'm not sure how many different ways I can say it: It is not the starter switch or the starter relay. These were the first two things I replaced back in the spring when the truck first went dead. The two plugs that plug into the starter switch fit like they should and the rod from the key...
