Building one from the ground-up is fun, but gonna cost you unless you are "in the loop" on parts. If you are serious, there are several people here who have built them from scratch, and it really isnt hard to do it if you stay stock. My high school auto shop students have already done one from...
My shipping plans seem to have taken a dive. I need to move a HMMWV from Dave Walker's place in Hesperia, CA(north of L.A.) to Memphis, TN a.s.a.p. Anyone heading that way?

Get in touch with Blair Outlan at 901-378-8877 or at www.usedh1.com. He has sold to BAE, Artis, General Dynamics, Blackwater and Boeing. He has trucks in the works all the time, just let him know what your specs are. Cheers!

re: hmmwv engine
I would check that one out before buying. It has a green turn-in tag, used when the item is unserviceable. Think green, as in "gotta go!" Just my 2cents.
Re: HMMWV search
There are lots of trucks out there for less than $35K, especially if you like the "some assembly required" version. The primary thing you must keep in mind is that the acronym HMMWV stands for "High Maintenance Money Wasting Vehicle." Not mine, saw it on G503, but its true...
More pix of the progress
Well, with the kids gone during the Christmas break, I had a chance to get some things done on the truck without interruptions. The body is now down, and I am awaiting a few items from Kascar and Flight Source to get it ready to fill with fluids and crank up. The kids...
More Progress in the renovation
Finally got the drivetrain in! Beadblaster helped with the exhaust manifolds. They really have enjoyed the work so far...its the classroom stuff that puts them to sleep. Spending my paychecks as fast as I get them, my part pile is starting to thin out a bit...
UPDATE- Body Harness going in
Well, it has taken some time to get parts ordered and received. The kids have been sidetracked with a district-wide project. Finally, it is time to start assembling/repairing. My second-year students are handling the electrical system, and began installing the...
Greetings, all! I had lined-up a pickup at Gl in Columbus, but it fell through due to unforeseen circumstances. As most of you know, I teach high school, so it is hard to bail during the week. Columbus GL does pickups on Mon, Tues & Thurs from 7:30 - 2:30. I have an engine and a pallet of parts...
Re: scholarships, future planning
Nice idea, Kyle! Only thing is, it would have to wait until 2011-2012 school year. I get mobilized next October(2009) and hit the sand in Apr 2010. I will be gone until the 11-12 school year. Just hope I still have my location when I return. THe district has to...
Re: my students
It is a high school. Only grades 10-12 are in the class. The school system doesnt provide training vehicles, so my first instinct was to bring in what I had spent the last year working on out of the house. Every shop teacher has a background in one particular...
I am looking for someone in the Norfolk area to handle collecting and shipping a lot I recently won. I have a triwall of parts. I only need the HMMWV stuff, the rest I will have to deal with. Optimally, it would be nice to only ship the HMMWV parts to me, so if anyone has a 5ton or CUCV and...
re: my students
The trucks my students work on dont belong to me or Uncle Sugar. They belong to a guy who sells them, both mil and civvie. He gets by-the-book repairs, writes a check to the class account(at a substantially better rate than dealer charges), and the proceeds go to buying tools...
My students have renovated 7 military and 4 civvie HMMWVs. As I begin my second year teaching this program, they get a chance to do a ground-up rebuild. Should keep them busy. I will update my build on this page, since my students will play a large role in the work.
Re: my new toy
Thanks for all the great info. I got the truck from a guy in Jersey for about 5600, shipped. I would load pix but am not sure how to put them inline like the rest of you do. Somebody tell me how? Cut and paste doesnt work. I am gonna be hunting parts forever, paying as fast...
I am going to need nearly everything beside the tub and chassis. For starters, I need some prices on all three harnesses, preferably new. I also will need:
Fuel tank mounting straps
All light buckets
Fuel tank bucket
Fuel filler tube and hoses
Fuel lines(metal)
Good radiator
Good trans cooler...
