    MEP-002a / 003a guage size?

Sounds great! I would love to fill my freq hole with something which works! I'm still working on a crowbar circuit to kill the engine if the voltage and/or frequency moves out of tolerance. I found a module which does alarm on either value. Working on an interface which will automatically...

    MEP-002a / 003a guage size?

I assume you meant the AC voltage gauge not the battery charging voltage.

    MEP-002a / 003a guage size?

I just dropped panel on my MEP003. They are both 2 3/4".

MEP-002A and MEP-003A glow plug and heater part numbers

Sounds like they are fine to me; 6-8 ohms at 24 volts is 3-4 amps. You probably noticed they got hot very quickly and will take several seconds to actually "glow". The sole purpose is to preheat the combustion chamber aiding the heat generated from the compression of the air and fuel. They...

DJE YOU Won't believe where I found parts

I have the CH42's and as TucsonVTXF indicated they don't come with the copper gaskets. I made some using a cut and flattened out copper water pipe and a hand metal punch. Took a few to get the center hole concentric but they worked.

MEP-002A and MEP-003A glow plug and heater part numbers

I'm rebuilding a John Deere 4 cylinder diesel engine with the glow plugs removed. I tested them with an ohm meter and all tested good. Just for fun I applied 12 volts (it is a 12v system) and measured the current draw for each plug. 2 of the 4 pulled about 8 amps and heated fine. 1 of 4...

    output voltage crowbar

Attached is a report I found concerning the effects on electronics due to overvoltage. Looks like a lot of devices can handle brief voltage spikes as well as sustained durations. Table 5.1 is probably the most interesting. When my VR wasn't functioning and the control winding in the CVT1...

    output voltage crowbar

I agree concerning the time delay shutdown to really protect the loads. I don't yet understand the main breaker shunt circuit but wondering if a simple relay circuit could be used to force the main to trip. I haven't studied this idea at all, just a thought. Regarding what power leg to...

    output voltage crowbar

I think this would be perfect. Monitors voltage and frequency provides a digital display and and be wired to kill the generator if either moves outside of specs. http://www.bender.org/voltage_relays.aspx#Description

    output voltage crowbar

Has anyone developed a circuit to monitor the output voltage and kill the generator if it varies outside of preset limits? I'm concerned about using MEP-003 to power my house and then have a VR failure which fries all my expensive loads. I'm thinking of an external circuit which monitors...

MEP-003a back to life, I hope (fuel system clean up, re-connection switch fix)

Good idea! We have a good used stove in the basement. Which also reminded me I have an electric furnace in the corner of the shop which isn't wired and needs the dust blown out of it! That's what I needed, a kick in the pants to make me think!

MEP-003a back to life, I hope (fuel system clean up, re-connection switch fix)

Update on the -003A. I found a CVT1 transformer close to home. I considered just replacing the whole AC box but everything else tested ok. After replacing the transformer it regulates perfectly. I'm trying to come up with a good (read cheap) way to load test the unit. Any suggestions?

I actually sold 2 already. If there is interest I will order some more.

DJE YOU Won't believe where I found parts

FYI, I got the Champion CH-42 glowplugs from NAPA for about 20 bucks each but had to buy a box of 10...

    MEP-002a overvoltage, bad transformer

Dmistretta, I have the exact same symptoms. ~160vac at the 120vac service sockets, voltage control has no effect. I replaced Q3 output transistor but did not fix it. Today I checked the resistance of the CVT1 transfomer and my control windings C1-C2 are also open. Should be around 9.6 ohms...

MEP-003a back to life, I hope (fuel system clean up, re-connection switch fix)

I think I found the voltage regulation problem or at least one more problem... I checked the control windings on the CVT1 transformer is open. Anyone have one in their back pocket? I will start searching the net. Tomorrow I will start calling the suppliers you folks have recommended in the past.

    Fuel gauge mep002-3

Thanks for the info! I do need one.

MEP-003a back to life, I hope (fuel system clean up, re-connection switch fix)

Just to give everyone an update on my progress. I replaced the Q3 2N3584 transistor which cross references to NTE384. NTE384 has some higher max current ratings and will dissipate 45w compared to 35w of the 2N3584. Anyway, this didn't solve my regulation issue. Same problem, at 60hz it puts...

MEP-003a back to life, I hope (fuel system clean up, re-connection switch fix)

I tried the JB Weld idea. I smeared a thin layer on both sides and put into a plastic bag. I let it cure between two flat steel plates. Then peeled the plastic off and touched up both sides with a flat file. Put it all together and seems to be working. Time will tell. The engine runs like...

MEP-003a back to life, I hope (fuel system clean up, re-connection switch fix)

I got the injectors back yesterday all cleaned up and looking good but I did screw up. I took one of the flat gasket/washers alone to see if they had any. I left it with the shop. Turns out they couldn't find them but they were nice enough to bead blast it for me! That gasket is some kind of...
