The M1031 with 5" lift, 12-bolt H1's and no spacers build!

    Well sadly, here's the "for sale" thread . . . http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?139540-1986-M1031-pickup-5-quot-lift-on-37-quot-H1-s-with-no-spacers-hydro-assist-twin-sticks

CUCV hard starting, surge at idle . . . have tried several things

Well adjusting the injector pump seems to have solved my problems. She cranked MUCH better today and the surging at idle is gone! I need to lower the idle now but that's easy enough. I took some pictures today and she'll be for sale in the next day or so! :(

CUCV hard starting, surge at idle . . . have tried several things

So I did some more research and came across a video on Youtube about the IP timing. I checked mine and it was about 1/8" off the mark. I advanced it and it seems to be running much better . . . no more surging. Won't know if I've cured the hard start issue till tomorrow.

CUCV hard starting, surge at idle . . . have tried several things

So all the lines are replaced. Hard to tell from the video, but it was still surging. http://www.fototime.com/EA709691BF5A1F1/convx264.mp4

CUCV hard starting, surge at idle . . . have tried several things

So I began the process of replacing the remaining rubber lines today. Step 1 was to replace the line between the filter and pump and the return line from the injection pump with clear lines so I can see what's going on. Step 2 was to pull the bed and replace the rubber lines at the tank and the...

CUCV hard starting, surge at idle . . . have tried several things

Anyone have any thoughts / suggestions on why I'm not getting power to the temp sensor (for the idiot light) and the fast idle solenoid?

CUCV hard starting, surge at idle . . . have tried several things

That's definitely part of the plan, but first I want to figure out why i don't have power to the temp sensor and fast idle solenoid. When I install the clear fuel lines suggested above I'll go ahead and do the bed and only have to re-prime the system once.

CUCV hard starting, surge at idle . . . have tried several things

OK, thanks. I did already change the lift pump and that didn't help. I feel like it's going to be something really simple but for now I'm stumped.

CUCV hard starting, surge at idle . . . have tried several things

First I’ll say I’m no diesel mechanic but I’ve done a LOT of searching both in the forum and the TM’s. After many months of trying I need a little help . . . SYMPTOMS About 7 or 8 months ago my truck (an ’86 M1031) became hard to start. I’d have to crank it for 30 – 45 seconds before it would...

The M1031 with 5" lift, 12-bolt H1's and no spacers build!

I read a few posts where people were talking about what a PITA it is to change the fuel pump. Holy Smoke they weren't kidding! It fought me every step of the way! But at least it's done. I hope to re-prime the system tomorrow if it doesn't rain and see if I've found my problem.

The M1031 with 5" lift, 12-bolt H1's and no spacers build!

It's been a while since I posted so I thought I'd add a few updates. My starter was beginning to give me problems so I replaced it with a new gear reduction unit which works great. I did have to get a new support bracket from from the local dealership but they had it in stock so no issues. I...

    CUCV with NP205 transfer cases

    Here's a pic of the 205 out of my '86 M1031. It's a long shaft with a figure 8 adapter, although I think it's somewhat of an oddball. And the adapter . . .

The M1031 with 5" lift, 12-bolt H1's and no spacers build!

I just replaced all the bulbs with LED's from superbrightleds.com. No brake controller . . . I don't plan on towing anything too heavy. On the winch, are you talking about in the front or rear? If front, I've seen a few guys mount the smaller winches between the frame rails, but I haven't done...

The M1031 with 5" lift, 12-bolt H1's and no spacers build!

A few updates: Installed new LED lights all around, including a new LED specific blinker. After installing the LED's I noticed that the back-up lights weren't working. So I did some research and found out about the switch at the base of the column. I adjusted it and now the back-ups are...

Official 2013 Georgia Rally Buy/Sell/Trade/Giveaway Thread

I'll be at the Rally on Saturday and have the following CUCV items for sale. I'm not planning on bringing them unless someone says they definitely want something. Dana 60 front axle with Trac-Loc limited slip - this came out of my '86 M1031 with 29k miles and is complete from hub to hub. $1,000...

    37" Hummer Tires & Wheels on M1008

This has not been my experience. My truck is lifted 5" and I still had to do quite a bit of fender trimming on the front for the tires to clear, particularly with the front suspension under full articulation. Maybe the stock springs just don't flex as much and that keeps them out of the fenders?
