The control box looks like it had been replaced possibly when someone was chasing this problem when it was still in service. I'm guessing that box isn't cheap.

That is good to know. I have the same exact problem. Transmission goes right to 270 while idling or driving. Sounds like I may need a gauge as well. Where did you get your gauge?
