Thanks, appreciate that correction. Quite familiar with ohms and kirchoffs laws and shouldnt have made such a rookie error ! I mostly deal with micro controllers and stepper motors kind of stuff.
Haha you're telling me... I feel like a fire would be more costly though. Not sure that's ever...
Interesting, thanks for confirming what I thought its purpose was. I guess my question is, why not use a replaceable fuse ? Not a "critical" system and can confine the failure to a fairly open area (near the PPD) ?
Ahh, thanks. I'm an aspiring schematic reader and not quite there yet. This...
WTF is this ? Is this normal ? I tried searching the forums and using google with "site:" prefix and not sure what to make of this... It was attached to the top lug of the PPD (fed directly from batts or alt). Is this normal ?
I know what this cable is for (INLET AIR HEATER), but not...
Found all of your 28SI alternator posts here:

Pretty much the exact setup I was searching for. I will be knocking that off completely if/when my 100A Neehoff dies. Hoping to extend its life a bit by...
And you also did an update to it ! And have returned your cooling system to something more commercial with your 3116.
I'm a huge fan and have learned a lot from your posts, so thank you.
The diodes may be in the cab, or the battery box. Depends on what seems like the cleanest install...
I wonder if it is still that way on the early A1 trucks...
I know the answer to this is to investigate and find out, but haven't put the time into that yet.
Went ahead and ordered 3 of those diodes (so I can torch one).
I think this is more or less how I want to do it. I'll cross the...
Thank you for taking the time to explain this in yet another thread !
Poor wording on my part, with "providing reverse current protection to the alternator or suppressing voltage spikes from 12v/24v cab circuitry ?" Two separate questions, which I edited in the original post.
Could it be...
Nice setup, and thanks for the drive link to your diagram. Really like Victron stuff and plan to use "the blue stuff" during the build.
Working on a diagram in Visio right now to see how I think it should be, and will reference your diagram as well !
That all checks. It really is that last part that has me going "hm... what are we missing ?". I was talking with an old radar maintainer who works for us about this, and he had a little chuckle and went "I wonder if, during their initial prototype/proof of concept phase, someone had a whoopsie...
I have a 2002 M1078A1 (really an A0.5 since no batt disconnect and has the Polarity Protection Device vs the Load Balancing Battery Control Device). I have been investigating my PPD and battery cables due to age and an intermittent D1323 ( ECU INPUT VOLTAGE HIGH ) "CHECK TRANS" that will...
I had this fun thing where my troop alarm went off for ~3hrs of driving before I figured it out. Which was odd, since not only did I not have any troops in the back, I also disconnected the switch. Turns out the metal tag had chafed through the insulation and was shorting the wires together...
1. Your LMTV build is very inspiring. I have exhaustively stalked all your pictures on steel soldiers and as soon as I saw your truck on youtube pop up, subscribed and watched.
2. Why not run a 24v 28SI alternator to the battery box, then run a 24v->12v converter/balancer to supply the 12v...
haha I am literally in the middle of doing this myself along with cleaning the PPD lugs, or possibly bypassing it for some diodes in the cab. I guess I might as well post how I'm doing it for the collective SS community to tell me how I could do it better/more efficiently.
You will have to...
While driving at night, I noticed my lights would become bright for half a second or so every once in awhile. I tried to pay extra attention to the voltage gauge, and once saw the needle flick to 30v and then back down to 26v or so. It would do it perhaps once an hour ? Would do it on...
I really couldn't hear the troop alarm with my Bose aviation headset on, or really even much with my earbuds in, as long as music was playing. It did intrude on audiobooks/podcasts though...
Before I departed I applied some hood liner to the underside of the doghouse... Didn't realize I needed...
First off, I'm sorry for not updating this thread. I was really missing my wife and wanted to get home for the holidays, so I burned straight through 2 days. Thank you Fuzzy Toaster for updating them !
Secondly, thank you all for the outpouring of support ! The drive went mostly smoothly...
