    MTV and LMTV

They do make a dump truck version of the MTV. I would suggest an MTV with roll back since you have a bed to begin with. You're building a custom truck anyway. Most of the MTV are set up for a PTO to run winch hydraulics and it's just a straight frame truck to begin with. Shouldn't be hard to...

M1008 Glow Plug Intermittent Issue Any Ideas?

I am currently restoring a couple of M1008s and M1009s, have been putting them back on the road for about 20 years. The major malfunction for the Glow Plug system other than it's complexity is age. The Positive and Negative feeds to the relay come through the controller card. I have never seen a...

    LMTV SRW intended use

One thing I learned long ago. If you want to go some place stupid, take a shovel, be ready to use it and all natural items available to go under the wheels. Hope for the best and have your check book ready if you were too stupid.

    Ether start in the FMTV

The FMTVs have a zero start ether system built into them with the temp sensor already built in. I found that my system had sat so long it was rusted in place and I couldn't remove the old bottle. I bought a new zero start system from O'Reillys, had to adapt the new mounting plate and installed...

    Manual glow plug wiring

Also in reading this, white smoke is an indication of low fuel pressure as well. Hard starting can be the Injector pressure regulator being plugged open causing low pressure to the injectors. Easy enough, use 9/16 and pliers to pull it out, blow it out with break cleaner, put it back in. Takes...

    Manual glow plug wiring

Hard wired is power wire from fuse panel to one post of single pole/single throw switch or much better high amp momentary (located at any auto store), wire from other post on switch to bottom sense post on relay. push switch, relay closes until switch is turned off or released. If the relay is...

    Manual glow plug wiring

The relay on the firewall usually has 3 connections on the bottom heavy post that should be Orange, heavy are Glow plug feeds, light is sense back to card. Top heavy should have a heavy red wire that goes to either the resistor bank or directly to the battery, preferably 12 gauge or heavier. If...

Finally enough Stew & Stev to write about?

I need also to put her up and adjust the brakes, their not doing as good as they should. Always something. Headed to Arkansas to recover an M1009 from GSA in the morning.

Finally enough Stew & Stev to write about?

I keep forgetting to snap pics and migrate them to the computer. I'm thinking really hard about migrating the 15K from the big truck to my LMTV. My son took a video of me climbing a talus slope over on the western side of the mountains, I should probably put that up. There does seem to be a...

    Another No start thread

Not for nothing, but I live in Colorado Springs and the temps have been down for the last week. My LMTV does not like temps below 50 degrees F. It will start, but I hate the grind on the starter. I replaced the old corroded Zero Start system on mine last week with a lot of swearing. But helped alot.

    LMTV SRW intended use

I noticed this thread as I was wandering through. From an old man. The 11K winch to a snatch block connected to a baTree back to your truck gives 22 K of pull if I remember right. Hardest part is having something immovable you can connect to and don't care how much damage it takes holding up to...

Finally enough Stew & Stev to write about?

Great truck, kind of scary that people want to go racing around in them. Stopping 9 tons of vehicle is never quick or easy and at high speeds with wide tires you are only going to get so much grip. Put a load or trailer behind it and you have a rodeo.

Finally enough Stew & Stev to write about?

I haven't encountered a lot of the problems I've seen posted. I went to Progressive commercial and they didn't bat an eye giving me insurance, make sure you tell them the vehicle is for personal use, not commercial, big difference in price. No problems with tires, though I know with the all...

Finally enough Stew & Stev to write about?

I purchased an M1078 from the state of Arkansas, a couple months back, mentioned it in an article. I have since driven it the 23 hrs back to Colorado Springs, taken it to the Elk Mountain Reserve over in Gunnison at 11,000 ft, seriously used the all wheel drive and worked on various minor...

Alum. matching door latch handle and window crank (NOT military match)

I have a 94 LMTV, so probably old, splined. I grabbed a spare CCUV handle and it fit on both window and door shafts. Again the door shaft is shorter, so the handle will fit on the shafts but won't go on far enough for the lock ring to settle in place and hold it there.

Alum. matching door latch handle and window crank (NOT military match)

I noticed this post going on, with a lot of technical bits. The CCUV window handles fit perfectly for the window crank, they also will work for the door handle, though they have to be ground or filed down a bit for the lock ring to hold them in place on the door handle as it is shallower shaft...

M1093 - Missing Dash gauges and fuse panel is gone

I saw it yesterday when I recovered the sweet M1009 in the same auction. I have power distribution panel and complete instrument cluster already, but I will be looking for the control valve assy for the hydraulics, I saw a couple of complete assy's on eBay, anybody watching this have one for sale?

M1093 - Missing Dash gauges and fuse panel is gone

Fuzzy, yes that is my other LMTV, still has the shipping sticker from Iraq to Kuwait and the names of the troops using it last in the window. Had it taken to Temple Truck & Trailer in Little Rock. They went through it, said everything works great except leaking cab bags and left rear brake pads...

M1093 - Missing Dash gauges and fuse panel is gone

Thanks NDT, I was embedded with the 82nd at both Jalalabad & Ghazni in Afghanistan,& spent some time with them on the Saudi peninsula. You kind of jogged my memory
