    Supposed Navy Clark Clarktor-6 Tug/Tractor

There's a guy on the Facebook group who works/worked for Clark and has access to all of the original build sheets, engineering drawings, etc. He used to be on the Yahoo group, before Yahoo shut all of that down.

    Supposed Navy Clark Clarktor-6 Tug/Tractor

Turns out my facebook login from college still works! I'm on the Clarktor group now and have posted my data plates, as they are. Figured I'd post them here too: Number on the left is 84629 with a triangular symbol after it. On the right appears to be T-925.

    Finally bought a M37!

Previous owner said it was very rusty, so I'm planning on getting one of those new stainless tanks. Figure that'll eliminate potential rust issues anyway!

    Finally bought a M37!

Well nevermind, looks like I *will* be doing a carb rebuild! After sitting with gas in the bowl for a little bit, the float filled up and it floods. Kinda figured that was too good to be true! I looked into the no gauges issue and think I found the problem: Nothing's hooked up! I rescind my...

    Finally bought a M37!

Yeah that's been my experience with other generic electric fuel pumps. End up flooding out the bowl vent! Any chance someone in central VA wants to swing by and help me dial in the timing? Pretty sure it's way late.

It's 4-7 PSI so I kept the regulator, which is definitely working. With the clear inline filter, I can see when the float closes and stops the fuel from entering the filter.

    Finally bought a M37!

Threw a new parts counter 12V fuel pump on in place of the original, changed inline fuel filter, runs and drives now. It has a boat fuel tank in the bed, guy I bought it from had the original gas tank but someone had, for whatever reason, cut it in half. Fortunately, the tank straps are still in...

    Finally bought a M37!

That's awesome! Always thought a 3-53 would swap well in a M37. A guy in town has a Chevrolet 3100 he put a 3-53 in and it's a pretty reasonable engine for something that size. If the flathead blows up, it's definitely getting a diesel.

    Supposed Navy Clark Clarktor-6 Tug/Tractor

I have heard that everyone moved to Facebook from the old Yahoo Groups page. I'm not on Facebook though. Might see if my wife minds me using her account.

    Finally bought a M37!

Yeah on the Clarktor-6 I'm running it gravity feed from the tank, since the tank in that particular model is over the engine. That was my #1 fear there, blowing a pump diaphragm, killing the oil, and spinning a bearing. That Facet pump looks like a good choice, there's a regulator on the...

    Finally bought a M37!

Miswire confirmed: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/7CQZIaYbLmo The distributor is off by a tooth, I tried to use the tried and true method of sticking my finger over the #1 sparkplug hole while my wife hit the starter, but kept coming up with the rotor between positions. So, I disconnected all...

    Finally bought a M37!

Yeah, no worries they're definitely staying, I used to wear my WW2 ordinance watch every day, all day, until the concussion from firing a pistol knocked the second hand off! Sure, every decay event that results in a particle or gamma ray passing through you has a nonzero chance of breaking that...

Turns out 1950s army gauges are radioactive: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/fP9saue9w4c

    Finally bought a M37!

Put batteries in...it's the weirdest thing...all the lights work! Someone must've gone through and redone them. Cranks fine, have spark, no run. Occasional *putt* or carb backfire. Guessing the timing is totally screwed up! The plugs were wired as if the distributor spun counterclockwise and...

    Supposed Navy Clark Clarktor-6 Tug/Tractor

I got the engine to fire off earlier this year, previous owner said he hadn't run it in at least 10 years. Needed the usual points cleanup, the starter solenoid was stuck and wouldn't contact (and then stuck in contact!), Bendix gear needed oil as it wouldn't pop out, etc. Here's a short video...

    Supposed Navy Clark Clarktor-6 Tug/Tractor

A few years ago I bought a Clark "Clarktor-6" industrial tractor (pictures attached). The guy I bought it from got it surplussed from one of the local VA (Veteran's Association, but also in Virginia) facilities, where it was used as part of the grounds maintenance equipment. He'd said, but I...

    Finally bought a M37!

Put brake fluid in this morning to let it sit, smelled like DOT-3 so that's what I put back in it. Looks like the front brakes may be disconnected. Master cylinder pumps up and feels like it's pushing air now, so I'm going to let it sit, figure it's better for the seals. Someone has done the...

    Finally bought a M37!

My brother has a WW2 Dodge...WC series I think. Definitely looks more like a COTS job than the M37s -- he's had me help sort some of his wiring problems via pictures and videos. The "not COTS" aspect is definitely part of the draw of the M37 for me. Plan is to actually run and drive this one...

    Finally bought a M37!

Pretty cool! I suspect it's pretty easy to swap stuff in, as long as it's not too tall. Kinda want to find one of those Hercules 3.7L turbodiesels that drops in, but I also do like these old flatheads a lot, and it's the same engine that's in my Clarktor-6 tractor. That was my thoughts on this...

    Finally bought a M37!

Long time no post, I finally bought a M37! Picked it up in NH, trailered to VA via Poughkeepsie, NY. Turns out a forklift is the greatest thing ever for unloading a trailer by yourself, I lashed the fork frame to the rear bumper. Total control coming off, including leveling the truck!
