M939 is ownership practical in SoCal?

As mentioned, im still trying to find the wording however, "technically" i understand that i am not exempt, but it was implied that they simply dont force compliance on someone at my level. Since we are just passing the first set of deadlines though it does concern me that they might "revamp" or...

California Title Registration Diesel Smog Law and GL loadout info for M35 Deuce 5 Ton

To readdress one of the original issues. I understand technically the law says unless historic, something like a 923(not capable of being an RV in its normal state), would have to have its engine replaced. Has anyone actually gone about doing this? Has anyone been required to do this? I heard...

M939 is ownership practical in SoCal?

Well sir, right you are. Those military guys said its not an issue for me. I guess the rules are a bit misleading and its only when youre using the truck for commercial usage or when you own 3 or more vehicles. I'm still trying to find the exact word of this in the rules but having troub.le.

M939 is ownership practical in SoCal?

I think at this point its pretty clear to me that im just screwed if i want a 5ton, due to my requirements. Since I'm not fond of the historic idea due to my interest in using it daily and heavy modification. Its looking like Ill just need to engine swap. On the bright side, i bet i could get...

M939 is ownership practical in SoCal?

I think all Deuces are small, which is why im looking at 5s. All shrimp are small, until they are not, then they are lobster.

M939 is ownership practical in SoCal?

Oh, wow, woops. I saw Southwest and thought that included CA. Might help if i was in the proper CA region. Let me figure out how to move it. I think I need an admin please....

M939 is ownership practical in SoCal?

To further that engine problem, so far as I can tell its not a registration issue but a driving issue. So even if I was to register in another state close by that doesnt care about the engine, i still cant legally drive it in the state of CA.

M939 is ownership practical in SoCal?

Also regarding the historic plate suggestions. https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/?1dmy&urile=wcm:path:/dmv_content_en/dmv/pubs/reg_hdbk/ch21/ch21_19 It is indicating that the vehicle has to be at least 25 years old but the kicker is "limited to operation or movement over the highway primarily...

M939 is ownership practical in SoCal?

I too wonder where that came from, i read it completely the opposite. Smog laws for under 14k are pretty lenient in comparison. This is the carb pdf I was reading http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/onrdiesel/documents/FSRegSum.pdf Depending if you count the GVWR as 22k which is the weight of the...

M939 is ownership practical in SoCal?

You can definitely do that with the shop or van trucks. There are certain requirements though, such as having a box type body on the back, and you must have certain things like a toilet, stove, bed, etc. I thought about it a while back when I was considering a van body but ultimately im going to...

M939 is ownership practical in SoCal?

I've looked into it but it's not my intended purpose unfortunately

M939 is ownership practical in SoCal?

I plan to get a CDL class A anyway. I plan to use it for pulling a camping trailer and off-roading. I also plan to modify it heavily which I would assume would make me ineligible for historic license. I'm guessing a quad cab on it and matte black isn't historic. Don't know about year yet, 923a1...

M939 is ownership practical in SoCal?

Wow I think that clean diesel rule does apply to me. So far it does look like I would have to replace the engine

M939 is ownership practical in SoCal?

Humm. I had assumed no diesel issues due to diesel laws really only starting as of 97 but good point. I heard there was some retroactive rules so I should check.

M939 is ownership practical in SoCal?

I'm looking into the practicality of a 923a2 in socal. Ive looked around and so far as I can tell there is no real reason that it should be an issue, i understand the insurance, registration, storage, driver license, overall cost. I checked the roads for weight limits, turns out there are a...

    m934a2 details

Well that was certainly an interesting thread to read. Yes it does give a good bit of info. It also confirms my ideas that converting the flip outs to slide outs is reasonably possible, at least on paper. I would echo a lot of the sentiment from that thread about how difficult it is to work the...

    m934a2 details

Another idea ive had was to create some way to jack up the box and give it quick disconnect from the chassis so that I could jack it up and drive out from under it, leaving it in place and even lowering it while i go have fun in the truck

    m934a2 details

I was thinking a very long ramp or having an aftermarket lift gate installed. Either is an option. Awesome, thank you. So 83 inches between the inside of the walls with the slides shut. Which means at 6'1" i could sleep sideways in the trailer with no issue at all. I need to get some chalk out...

    m934a2 details

Perhaps im misunderstanding the issue with brakes, i guess its an issue of traction more than brakes. but any suggestions are welcome.

    m934a2 details

I'm really interested in the m934a2 as a toy hauler. I know many have said that a civilian truck would be better for many reasons but i have my heart on this. I'm open to other options besides the m934, such as a m146 box bolted onto the back of a 939 extra long chassis or other such things. I...
