    Transmission Opinions

I'm starting to think this is my best option. It will require the most fab work and time, but it's still relatively inexpensive if I do most or all of the work myself. and by far is the strongest option and probably more reliable with the weight

    Transmission Opinions

It won't be a daily driver by any means, just once per month or two for audio shows. I just don't see the need to purchase a $20-30,000 truck to tow it 6-12 times a year when it should be capable of moving itself for a lot less investment V belts are very inefficient at transferring power to...

    Transmission Opinions

I prefer an auto but I'm not opposed to manual if it would work better in this case. I need to look into what all a 6bt swap would entail since I could get the entire drivetrain easily. I really like the M1010 and still want to use it for my project rather than something boring like a van, but I...

    Transmission Opinions

I do like the idea of not having the OD constantly swapping on/off under a load, so that's another plus for the GV and NV4500.

    Transmission Opinions

The part in bold is another concern I have. At the minimum I will be doing a serpentine belt swap which I've heard is good for making up around 10-20hp worth of losses and making my own CAI. I've also considered a turbo or complete 6BT swap. I won't be driving through any mountains, but...

    Transmission Opinions

My main concern with the TH400 is the lack of a locking diff will cause more heat buildup and extra RPMs at cruising speeds on the highway. Maybe a trans cooler would help? I do like that the GV unit can split gears so it won't be falling out of the powerband as much.

    Transmission Opinions

To add to this, my uncle has 2 donor trucks each with a 6bt and NV4500 - I'm sure he'd let me buy one cheap. I don't think I'm up to a motor swap myself though and I'm sure a shop would charge a ton. But if that would be my best option, I may do it.

    Transmission Opinions

I plan to do a good amount of highway driving in my M1010, so the stock TH400 isn't going to cut it. I plan on running 37" takeoffs and keeping the 4.56 gears. I will be hauling about 1500 to 2000 extra pounds of equipment in the back, but the inside of the ambulance shell is completely stripped...

    Supporting 14,000 curb weight?

It will be towed. The truck will sit on a trailer and when needed, be unloaded to sit stationary at shows and give out demos. There are quite a few extreme vehicles "overloaded" this way and some that weigh quite a bit more (filled with concrete, steel, etc) and they only drive from the trailer...

    Supporting 14,000 curb weight?

A cool ambulance with plenty of room is the wrong vehicle for an audio company's show vehicle... okay lol. It's most likely going to end up being towed to shows. I do have a 6bt that might find a new home under the hood since the whopping 135 horsepower won't be supporting more than the stock...

    Supporting 14,000 curb weight?

After running the numbers the M1010 audio demo build is going to be a trailer queen until I can do some serious powertrain upgrades. Curb weight is going to be at least 14,000 pounds, minus whatever stripping the inside of the ambulance bed takes away. Would it be smarter to lengthen and...

    M1010 Fuel Issues

Ok I have a few upgrades planned now... ACDelco 60g glow plugs with manual switch Spools of 3/8" and 1/4" fuel line to replace all the 30 year old lines Airtex Electric Fuel pump Spin on fuel filter conversion with 2 micron filter K&N Air filter Doghead relay Not all are directly related to...

    M1010 Fuel Issues

Is there any disadvantage to using the Stanadyne lift pump that installs on the top of the FM100 filter rather than an external electric lift pump? I hadn't seen that mentioned anywhere but I've seen plenty of people use the FM100 and a different pump

    Welcome - M1010 Audio Build

I'll just be using 2 alternators to start with and a ton of batteries in the back. It won't be continuously drawing 20kW. The largest alternator I can get is a 240a with the v belt; but I can use 370s with a serpentine belt. With the way that impedance works, a 20kW amp will only output around...

    Welcome - M1010 Audio Build

I've got something a bit more mild (if 5kW is mild) in my daily driver, but this will be a company vehicle to help with marketing :) And you know... to have some fun. It'll be a learning experience for me as I've never worked on a diesel before. I'm a quick learner though

    M1010 Fuel Issues

I'm probably doing a screw on fuel filter swap and maybe an electric fuel pump... any other mods I should do while I'm replacing things that are likely bad?

    Welcome - M1010 Audio Build

I'm thinking about 20kW to start. The windshield will probably have to be replaced with plexiglass but I plan on putting a reinforcement pole between the roof and floor - the roof flexing is usually what causes windshields to go. IASCA is still around but it's not too big here. The main one...

    Welcome - M1010 Audio Build

My uncle bought a bunch of them around 10 years ago when he was into off-roading. It's pretty hard to find them now.

    M1010 Fuel Issues

After sitting for 2-3 years I've been given permission to use the m1010 sitting in the parking lot for an audio build. I got it to start today with some starting fluid (pulse sprayed some in while someone else was cranking it, don't worry). There was a good amount of smoke when it started but it...

    Welcome - M1010 Audio Build

Hey guys. I'm the owner of SounDrive Audio and I'm working on an audio build in a m1010 here soon. We also have a m1028 without a motor and 2 m1008s (one is totaled). Right now one of the 1008s and the 1010 are the only ones close to running but they both have issues. The 1010 is my main...
