    Okay.....So, not to derail my own thread; however, let's assume I get this problem solved.......... Will these things fit my rig? Bolt pattern 8 x 6.5 which is what I need but I'm just concerned about width/back spacing or is it a non issue? Thanks again...

    correct.........2 hand brakes are pointing up.........I mentioned toward trailer as they can slightly in that direction......not literally pointing at the trailer box. emergency brake lever attached to cable is pointing more toward the box than those two..........all three are...

    some guy mentioned that the fact that the trailer tongue is leaning forward (ie - my tow vehicle not being tall enough) could be inadvertently engaging the surge brake.......he said the chemical smell sounds like brakes are dragging. ? thoughts? this sound feasible? thanks

    brilliant...thanks...let's assume for a moment that wheel(s) do spin freely and we can forego any notion that brakes are dragging...........anybody have any other ideas on how to get these hub caps off? thanks

    Fellas........I recently acquired one from a buddy who was tired of messing with it. I hauled it about 25 miles to my place and upon exiting the vehicle smelled what seemed like a noxious vapor...Almost like a chemical fire. I checked hubs and I'm surprised they weren't glowing red they were...
