    FMTV High Speed Gears

If you're just looking for the new gears try Joe Boydstun at MTP Drivetrain Services - they are in Many Louisiana and have access to rockwell/meritor parts. I contacted him a few months ago and he can get the gears from Meritor at a cost of $1000 a set. I couldn't find someone in NJ that I felt...

    1989 M998 6.2 Strange Stalling Issue

Once it's started and running it is fine, even in a heavy rain it won't stall it. I figured the starter may be on it's way out but it seems to work 99% of the time so I haven't messed with it.

    1989 M998 6.2 Strange Stalling Issue

I removed the EESS and opened it. It is clean as a whistle. Not a speck of dust or any corrosion on any wires or the circuit board. Is there anything else that can be causing this?

    1989 M998 6.2 Strange Stalling Issue

I did quite a bit of research today and my conclusion is that the EESS is on it's way out - It's a yellow Label NARTRON 19207 ASSY 12469158-1 For the guys that have have been down this road before - is it wise to replace with the same model or upgrade to an S3 EESS. If I were to go with an S3 I...

    1989 M998 6.2 Strange Stalling Issue

Hey Guys, I'm having a strange issue with my HMMWV. I did a search of the forum and couldn't find any posts with a similar issue. SS has been a huge resource for me in maintaining my MV's and I'm hoping some of you more knowledgeable guys can steer me in the right direction. This seems to...

    leveling hmmwv m998

If fully interchangeable with the Hummer H1 try and source only the front springs from a lift kit. I've been thinking of running 39.5" Iroks on my M998 as well. How does it effect handling, braking, and top speed? Would you mind sharing any photos?

First Post - new to me M1078 MD3070PT with Shifting Problems

one jack to lower the control module two jacks to push the back end of the transmission (via the transfer case) up about an inch. The tail end had to come up a little so that the control module could come down perfectly straight. They supported the transfer case with the two jacks and lowered...

First Post - new to me M1078 MD3070PT with Shifting Problems

It is such a relief to have nice smooth shifts. It did take about 20 minutes of driving for the transmission to re-learn how to shift smoothly. It was shifting pretty crappy for a little while but got smoother after a short drive. I'm used to my Humvees which sound like they will implode when...

First Post - new to me M1078 MD3070PT with Shifting Problems

Here's the update for any that are interested. I brought the truck to an Allison Mechanic that works on school buses for the local school district. He pulled the Control Module and replaced the sensor. While everything was apart a new harness was also added for good measure. The only...

First Post - new to me M1078 MD3070PT with Shifting Problems

Ok - here's my new questions and maybe IO'm being lazy. The most likely cause per Allison is a white film buildup within the control module. The remedy per the allison manual is to pull the control module and clean it with mineral spirits. Why can't I drain the transmission fluid, put a gallon...

First Post - new to me M1078 MD3070PT with Shifting Problems

OK - checked all the harnesses as supermn recommended - no visible issues. I'm leaning towards the turbine output sensor that is in the trans itself. An earlier poster mentioned the harness or the sensor going bad and needing to drop the pan. The code from the WTEC from day one was listing a...

First Post - new to me M1078 MD3070PT with Shifting Problems

OK - So I replaced the speed sensor and the symptoms haven't changed. I checked the output on the alternator - the two larger connections read 28V and 14V - the two smaller connections read 28V and -2V Would it be safe to assume that the regulator is bad and possibly could be causing the weird...

First Post - new to me M1078 MD3070PT with Shifting Problems

I replaced the speed sensor on the transmission but there is no change. I took coachgeo's advise and measured the voltage at the alternator there are two connections at the front of the alternator - one reads 28.4 volts and the other reads 14.3 volts there are two smaller connections on the...

First Post - new to me M1078 MD3070PT with Shifting Problems

Speedometer is not erratic - However the Volt Meter seems to bounce between 24 and 27 somewhat erratically. I replaced the speed sensor - part # 29543432 and no improvement. I decided to turn my sights on the charging system and here lies my confusion. There are 5 connections on the...

First Post - new to me M1078 MD3070PT with Shifting Problems

Thanks Will - I pulled everything apart from the WTEC to the Trans and cleaned the connections. WTEC is grounded and speedo and all other gauges work fine. Still the same symptoms - but while cleaning everything I re-wired the heat and fixed the CTIS - those both work now which is a plus...
